I've ended up at a point where I think for some tasks it is really good (especially rote tasks that don't require deep thought). But as far as a replacement for original thinking? It's terrible.

It's abysmal at doing research. You HAVE to go back and check sources because it will give you fake citations. Once I asked it for legislators who might be possible sponsors for a bill I'd hypothetically come up with. The main legislator it gave me was someone who wasn't in the legislature anymore!

That said, I already never use it to write initial paper drafts and as it turns out it's pretty bad at writing good papers. I do use it to review papers I write to see if it hits the rubric criteria or if I need to trim word counts down.

For instance, it's been good for biostats and some of the coding stuff I have to do where ultimately all you're doing is putting numbers into equations. Though you still do have to go back and check to make sure it did it correctly.

All that said, her instructors feedback was entirely appropriate

She shouldn't have gotten a 0 and I actually think per the rubric she should have passed but only because the assignment was so undemanding.

Second, not even getting into the argument the student makes but good gosh is this a bad essay. She doesn't really answer the prompt but meanders along with a mishmash of culture war arguments that don't cite the Bible at all (or any other material).
