In a functioning political system, numbers like these would result in the GOP turning on Trump for the nonstop insane ideas he keeps floating out there. But they're just incapable of doing it.
Donald Trump's net approval rating right now is currently worse than bush's was after Katrina www.gelliottmorris.com/p/data

Nobody wants to anger the fuhrer themselves and everyone assumes the idea is so self-evidently stupid and self-destructive that somebody else will stop it.
1) Here's the thing: this Greenland thing is wildly unpopular. Like 50 points underwater. WTF is wrong with the GOP that they feel the need to run and defend this thing that the American people absolutely fucking do not want?!
Cruz: "When it comes to Greenland, I want to commend President Trump for being single-mindedly focused on America first... I believe it is overwhelmingly in America's national interest to acquire Greenland... the whole history of America has been a history of acquiring new lands and new territories"

Americans are going to have to learn that choices matter in a way that they haven't had to learn in a long time. They've been insulated from bad choices for decades but that is coming to an end.
Fundamentally the lesson American voters took from Trump I and Stop the Steal is that Worse Things Aren't Possible imo
The North Atlantic Treaty was, to be fair, on the ballot in 2016, ‘20, and ‘24 and a decadent voting public made some horrible choices.

And unlike the last time the US faced foreign terrorism on home soil who is going to come to American aid?
1/ Something which I don't think gets articulated clearly often enough is that a system where countries generally respect international sovereignty and territorial integrity is not pure charity or morality by the United States, but in its direct interests.

Despite it being the strongest bear.

Clearly American intervention is anti-imperialist and liberators. Just like the Greater East-Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere
WELKER: Why is it necessary to do something 85% of Greenlanders oppose?

BESSENT: Denmark has a terrible history w/ Greenlanders. There were forced sterilizations until the '90s. Now that the US has expressed an interest, there is this new interest. But the US needs to be in control to prevent a war

With Trump's history, Europe standing up to him will make him back down eventually. But its going to take decades for the US to recover.

So essentially the administration is going to use Ukraine to blackmail Europe over Greenland. We aren't the good guys anymore
WELKER: Is Greenland or NATO more vital to natl security?

BESSENT: That's obviously a false choice

W: Not to European leaders

B: They will come around & understand they need to be under the US security umbrella. What would happen in Ukraine if the US pulled support? The whole thing would collapse

Truly does feel like Europe has had enough
Tired: Slim majority of Brits opposed links with Europe.

Wired: Large majority of Brits favour war with the US.
Starmer will have to be dragged into a breach with the US, and that is as it should be. But Greenland is a good place to draw the line. Terrible numbers for Trump, great numbers for Starmer.

Trump is going to torch the "special relationship" with the UK too. That'll go over well with Congressional Republicans and the overall public

This may incur some serious blowback, but so be it. If we don’t stand up for Greenland and Atlanticism now, then nothing matters.

The preservation of NATO is table stakes for American national and economic security. I will not sit idly by and watch it die.

American mineral security requires standing up for Greenland, and against those seeking to exploit its conquest

Great work, Bill. The measles outbreaks were definitely worth it.

I recently asked ChatGPT to explain something to me simply, just to see how it distilled a complex subject. Then I asked it to dumb it down. And dumb it down again. And again. It ended up with one word: "try" lol

So then I did nuclear fission. Here's the result.

Have generally thought term limits were a bad idea for congress, a way to ensure nobody ever knows what they are doing, but this is as good an argument as I’ve seen. Though I think it’s less holding onto their seat than fear of group ostracization in job and social life that makes them compliant.

I always wondered, when I read Suetonius, how everyone could put up with Caligula for so long.

I think I understand better now. The institutional and social inertia is so strong, especially among elites with “something to lose”. No one wants to stick their heads up first, so they go into denial.

A long-term effect of Trump is obviously to strengthen China, while weakening the international commitment to democracy. Even pro-democratic countries will align with a stable authoritarian regime rather than one that is threatening to attack them.
The Canada-China relationship has been distant and uncertain for nearly a decade.

We’re changing that, with a new strategic partnership that benefits the people of both our nations.
