Kind of a hoser. Likes birds.
With respect to Murakami...what?

The routine he describes is virtually identical to mine, when I'm writing a novel (which is always; I'm a ghostwriter). I get up at 5 and go to bed at 10, and I walk rather than running or swimming. Otherwise, same.

...it's just habit, man. It's not that deep.

So I tested my hypothesis, and sure enough...

With all the talk of Moby-Dick lately, I thought it was time to resurrect the legend of the terrible lightning whale.

This is the picture. Now I look at it closely, his eyes look like mine. That's a problem for a lot of artists: we draw our own features by default. But other than that, this does not look like me.

This is a photo from, I think, 2016. These two crows are a parent and fledgling. The parent had been hit by a car, and was very, very sore, but the fledgling was hungry, and would not stop begging.

(This story has a happy ending: after one miserable week, the parent recovered.)

The song in my head today is...

Bah-bah-bah, bird-bird, bird. Bird is the word. Bird. Bird. Bird is the word.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

Oh, I've got some of those! Had some gulls nest on the roof across from mine some years back, and I caught it all, from conception (not pictured here) to first flight!

QRP with your wing art!

(I have a LOT of wing art.) #birds

Artists! Quote with you most detailed art! 🎨

I don't know, but it might be this picture of pirates abducting a child. There's a bunch of detail in the water, and their outfits.

Always did like this photo.

(It's not AI--just poorly edited. I added some blur to obscure my messy kitchen.)

This is a total FAIL shot of a black-capped chickadee. I had the settings wrong on my camera, and also timed the shot badly. Kind of like it anyway, with the light through its wings.

My take on "The Little Mermaid," from ages ago (the moment she throws herself into the sea).

Eh...spoilers, I guess?

Some of my worst bird photography has been of starlings. I don't know why, but I never get good shots of these.

This is a pair of them digging up worms.

This is a picture of a pigeon flying away.

Pigeons have the LOUDEST wings, that clapping they do, y'know, when they take off like FAP FAP FAP FAP.

Some days, you're a paragon of professional competence.

Other days, you're a sore-eyed, dry-nosed little animal, in need of your creature comforts.

I don't still have the text of the tutorial, but this was the image. You wouldn't really need a value study for a drawing like this. (Wouldn't hurt any to do one, especially if you weren't sure what you wanted the finished image to look like and wanted to experiment, but you could do without.)

This is how I look doing the same thing in my forties.

(Not really. There are a couple of other pictures in this series, where I was doing more or less the same thing I did in my twenties, but MUCH more cautiously. But this one is funnier.)

Reskeet with a time you looked cool

In my twenties, I could more or less effortlessly hang in a doorframe. I don't know how cool I looked, but this is how I did it.

I've posted this before, but it always cracks me up.

(It's a bad art history joke, about "The Death of Marat.")
