Kind of a hoser. Likes birds.
Found it--"The Longing." Definitely going to check that out. Thanks for the recommendation!

Ooh, really? I'll have to look into that. A real ten-year time clock SOUNDS like a terrible idea, but I would actually love to try a game like that.

(Ignore the missing comma. Can't be arsed redoing the whole post for one typo.)

Ewwwww, eugh, yeah, congealed mayo...getting the boak just picturing that. Fully agreed re: eggs.
January 20, 2026 at 10:18 PM
For me, the taste is not so much the problem--though, it's certainly a problem--it's the raw eggs. I know the vinegar is meant to kill off the salmonella, or whatever, but I don't want to put raw eggs in my mouth.

I will grudgingly eat it if I know it's not "real" (no eggs). Otherwise, no.

Correction: Dragon Quest is 30 years old. It's Dragon Quest 2 that's 25-ish. But the moment I'm talking about relates to the first game.

That's absolutely gorgeous! I love it.
January 20, 2026 at 9:10 PM
Oh, I forgot all about Ishmael! I had to look that up, and then I remembered. Yeah, by all accounts, Abraham was a TERRIBLE father. F-; would not procreate with this man!

(Her explanation for Jesus was also mental illness: he was someone who had a lot of the right ideas, and was probably a good man, but he wasn't the son of God. He just lost his mind. And given the age he was, I suppose the onset of schizophrenia COULD make sense...)
January 20, 2026 at 6:17 PM
My mother said, when I was really young and first read that story, that it was how people explained insanity in those days. So, in her interpretation, Abraham had an untreated mental illness that brought him within a hair of murdering his child. Cheery story!
January 20, 2026 at 6:15 PM
A lot of biblical stories are like that. Like, Abraham and Isaac. Oh, sure, he didn't murder the kid. Poor mite gets to grow up instead with the memory of his father dragging him up a mountain, probably muttering to some unseen god the whole way.
January 20, 2026 at 6:13 PM
That sounds to me like an exhausting nightmare, not a happy ending.
January 20, 2026 at 5:51 PM
Yeah, that story... In the most charitable possible reading, Job is starting over, middle-aged, with a bunch of little kids running around, whom he'll still be supporting well into old age. And he's probably still tired from...didn't God also afflict him with several plagues?
January 20, 2026 at 5:51 PM
Yeah--I've heard that too, from different artists. I don't know if it's a genre thing, like certain fans have gravitated here, but not others, or if it's some kind of strategy that works better here...wish I had the answer!
January 20, 2026 at 5:34 PM
I HAVE heard artists who do Kickstarters or sell prints, et cetera, saying they get a better engagement to sales ratio on BS than they did on Twitter. No idea about Threads.
January 20, 2026 at 5:17 PM
To me, it depends what your aim is.

If you want to get your words/images in front of as many eyeballs as possible, Bluesky's not it. If you want to connect consistently with people you know, Bluesky is WAY better than Twitter or Threads.

I use socials for socialising only, so I like Bluesky.

I KNEW that McDonald's Coke tasted weird. I KNEW it!
January 20, 2026 at 4:13 PM
Oh, yes, maybe. I didn't think about that.

(Even within the same country, soda can be different--recently, I became CONVINCED Coke from McDonald's tasted different from Coke anywhere else, and everyone said that wasn't possible. Turns out they use extra syrup and filtered water to alter the taste.)
January 20, 2026 at 4:13 PM
It's funny to me that people who like that diet taste probably find it equally mind-boggling when the rest of us DON'T like it.
January 20, 2026 at 1:59 PM
I tried some zero-sugar sodas after getting a LOT of expensive dental work, thinking they'd be better for my teeth (spoiler: they're not). I tried to find one I liked, but they all had a weird, chemical aftertaste that stayed on my tongue. Sugar dissipates faster, I find. Maybe it's genetic.
January 20, 2026 at 1:59 PM
I sometimes put lemon juice into full-sugar soda, now you mention it! But I never noticed a lemon taste in the diet type, just that weird, floor-cleaner taste of aspartame. (Maybe it's a genetic thing, like with cilantro--to some people, it tastes great, and to others, awful.)
January 20, 2026 at 1:57 PM
I hate diet soda, but sometimes I wonder...if I'd got THAT as a treat as a kid, and not the regular full-sugar kind, would that be the flavour I crave even now?
