Just rewatched it. I remember how unbelievably on edge I was in this match. So much tension and drama. Then to follow it up with *that* finale at Headingley later in the summer was crazy.

I wouldn’t exactly say that winning 10 out of 22 league games this season makes better reading anyway. What’s the form since the start of 2025? The fact is, many of the draws have been against sig. worse opposition. But have we actually played really well in the league once this season?

Maybe I’m being harsh, but iirc it’s not the first time we’ve been stung by making a similar change in this scenario. Think it was under Klopp when it happened. In any case, I’m so fed up of this v negative approach from Slot. Yeah, we’re not losing, but we’re not playing well or gaining confidence.

Perhaps if the manager hadn’t decided to go negative and replace Gakpo with Gomez we might not have conceded. I never like bringing a defender on in that scenario as it might throw out the concentration/ mean we change formation to accommodate him.

I think it’s all of those things mentioned, plus he’s so predictable with what he does. Cut in and shoot or cut in and cross. Sometimes it leads to a goal, but mostly just to frustration of another attack fizzling out.

Yes, but he came from the same league & still took time. Look at Isak, WC striker with Newcastle, looks crap now. There are no guarantees that Wirtz will be a superstar, but it would help if we played to his strengths. We’ve changed system, which suits no one & no one knows what they’re doing

If we think there’s signs of encouragement after not losing to West Ham, Sunderland & Leeds then that’s a pretty bleak assessment of where we’re at now. We need a reset

Yes, they should step up. But it looks like none of them know what they should be doing - that’s on the coach & staff. I’d rather Slot succeeded, but I’m not sure because he doesn’t look like he has answers.

True and currently he’s not worth what we paid for him. But I think it’s worth giving him time before writing him off. When Caicedo first joined Chelsea, he was pretty average but now he’s the player that excelled at Brighton. Everyone adapts at different speeds.

I think it’s a pretty reasonable assumption given his treatment of Chiesa, Elliott (both last year and while on loan), Quansah and the academy players. Plus, the one time he could properly spend with the likes of Chiesa and the academy players (int. breaks) he goes away. I don’t like it

Wonder how much truth there is in this. Personally, I’d love Alonso in to take over from Slot. He would know how to get the best out of Wirtz at least…

He wasn’t great on Saturday, and hasn’t had a great start to life in Liverpool. But we also don’t play to his strengths. Same with Isak. We’ve spent all this money and we have no idea how to make it work. That’s on Slot and the coaching staff.
