Looked up this article to make sure it was accurate. Of course, since it is the New York Times, some might argue that the reporter was treating the Nazis very very unfairly. After all, as Goebbels asserted, they told the funniest jokes of all time. www.nytimes.com/1939/02/04/a...

Former Marine and DeKalb County officer David Rose was shot and killed in August when he confronted a vaccine denier attacking the Atlanta office of the Centers for Disease Control. He left a wife and three children. If anyone deserves half-mast flags and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, it's him.

Here at the NCAA Birmingham Regional, we ran into some Tennessee reporters. Of course we talked about the great Pat Summitt. One of the toughest parts of our second edition was chronicling Pat's all-too-early death. But it was also clear her influence would last far longer.

Saw my first butterfly the other day – a Cabbage White. The season begins! Dandelions provide early-season nectar for all sorts of insects. For info about growing a butterfly-friendly garden, see the article I published in Queen City Nerve back in July. qcnerve.com/what-to-know...

Just a quick book signing reminder, for those of you in the D.C. area.
As we head to our book signing in DC, we're reminded of Chris Weller, who coached at Maryland from 1975 to 2002. Frustrated by a lack of opportunity at home, Weller helped to organize a college club team and "felt like I grew and found myself." She ended up in the Hall of Fame.

Those who sought to turn Title IX into reality had to take matters into their own hands. Stanford's 1970s basketball team regularly confronted their athletic director, recalled Mariah Burton Nelson (#12). "We were angry. We were persistent. We were, I’m sure, a pain in the neck."

It can seem frivolous to post about women’s basketball at such a perilous time. But stories of players’ strength, joy and determination make vital contributions to full understanding of our nation’s past, especially as powerful leaders seek to roll back women’s gains and to rewrite their history.

Shattering the Glass is as much about women’s history as it is about sports history.
Female basketball players have always challenged limits on where women could go, what they could do, and how they could express themselves.
A perfect read for March - month of Madness and of women’s history!
