Today for #WebcomicDay, we're happy to announce a BIG project we've been working on!

Introducing Comix Cleric, a web framework that makes it easier than ever to make and host your webcomic YOUR way! Crafted BY comic creators FOR comic creators, we're making sure it's PACKED with features!

The concept logo for Comix Cleric. The logo shows a orange haired girl in a yellow robe with what looks like comic panels decorating the bottom. She is holding a staff with a speech bubble at the top and a mouse pointer at the bottom. Text underneath of her reads "Comix Cleric" in a stylized logo. This is all on a blue, circular background.

Did I make my own level editor? You bet! It's a lot more complete since the Frogun days, too!

Speaking of the classic musical comics, what about a little WIP preview of the built-in audio player for "How the King Stole Christmas"?

Being able to include audio alongside a comic can elevate the experience, and we're excited to offer it.
This is still in development, and may change!

We've been doing a lot of work behind the scenes to help get BitF back online and using a platform dedicated to both readers and creators! I want to thank them for being so gracious and patient with us during this! Development takes a lot of time and effort, and I'm glad just to help any way I can!

We're pleased to announce an exciting partnership! 11 Years after its final update, we're happy to announce that the legendary webcomic "Brawl in the Family" will be released from the archive. Soon over 600 comics, including the classic musical comics, will return using Comix Cleric!

And don't worry, you won't have to wait long! You'll be able to check out the new and improved site THIS MONTH!

Not only will a great piece of webcomic history be preserved and revitalized, but it'll also be your first chance to check out what Comix Cleric can do!

We reached out to Matthew Taranto months ago and offered to help host his comics with Comix Cleric, as Keenspot had shut down and we were concerned that these comics could be lost to time. It's certainly been tough keeping it a secret for this long!

Yasumi "The World Has Not Improved In The Last 30 Years" Matsuno
"Nearly 30 years ago, the collapse of Japan’s bubble economy engulfed the nation’s financial institutions in mountains of bad debt, triggering a wave of corporate bankruptcies, a sudden and extreme rise in unemployment rates, and stagnation of Japanese society as a whole. It was an era when many were robbed of hope, when dreams were measured by their price tag.

“Against this historical backdrop, I crafted a story. It was the story of Ramza, a young man who fought tirelessly against the entrenched social class system. It was the story of Delita, who sought to take advantage of this confusion and despair to advance his own social position. It was a story of a peculiar destiny, in which friendship and betrayal intertwine.

“And now, in 2025 – a time when inequality and division are still deeply rooted in our society – I offer this story once again.

“The will to resist is in your hands.”

Yasumi Matsuno -- Original Script, Scenario Writer and Editor

Keeping a steady schedule is a big part of being any type of content creator, but especially for #webcomics! It may be an obvious addition, but being able to set a release date is an important feature for Comix Cleric!

As far as "Comment/Favorite" systems are concerned, we have plans for them, but they might not be available on initial release.

We definitely love fan engagement, but setting up a user account system for readers is a bit tricky! Once we figure things out, we'll be sure to add it in.

Do you plan to have a react feature that allows visitors to like pages or comments?

Important that not all comics are in English!

There are plans for having a toggle that you can use to switch between multiple versions of a comic page, whether it's multiple languages, different perspectives, etc.

Also, is multilingual comics could be a thing? I have a French and English version.

We haven't considered bulk updates, since some comic updates (especially Webtoon-formatted ones) can be built up using multiple files. We'll look into it though!

However, you CAN bulk-UPLOAD all your files into CC, and retroactively date them to their proper release dates.
valeriane.org
I do! Will we be able to upload several pages at once and gave each a different publishing date? I have a fik8shed 360+ pages webcomic and I don't want to upload them one by one ^^;

The paid version of CC will be cheap, include hosting, and have additional features before they're released to the DIY version. It will be updated more frequently than the free version.

There will also be pricing tiers for beta-testing features, and for setting up a CC site with custom features.

The "DIY" version will always be free and open-source. It will contain everything you need to spin up your own site with Comix Cleric and host it wherever you'd like.

It will be updated a couple of times per year with bug fixes and additional features.

It's basically the "stable" version of CC.

We <3 open-source projects, but we also need to make sure we can fund our future projects. So, our current plan is to have 2 CC versions:

- A free, open-source "DIY" version that you can spin up yourself.
- A paid, closed-source version where we host it for you with extra features.

- Would this be an open source or closed source project?

This looks very exciting so I'm very interested in testing it out when it's available!

- For a release date, we're planning to launch by the end of the year!

- There is not a roadmap yet, BUT we can definitely create one when we make the main Comix Cleric website. (Soon!)

- We will allow more customized site-wide layouts/themes, but we haven't considered it for individual pages.
linkyutl.bsky.social
- From what I can tell, this isn't released yet. Do you have a rough estimation of the release date?
- Similarly, is there a publicly available roadmap?
- Is it possible to have custom page layouts for specific pages? Maybe with customisable CSS as part of a page/chapter upload?

Honestly, we kinda forgot to make a website for Comix Cleric to explain everything. It's now on our To-Do List.

As far as previews/demos go, we're working with some creators to show off a live site in the near future!

We also have a Discord server for CC! To join, send me a DM asking for the link.

hi! Having worked on something similar before, I do have a couple of questions:
- Is there a place we can see a preview of the tool? Maybe a read-only version? Or at least a website with screenshots (navigating skeets to learn more about it is not very convenient)

And not just for mobile layouts, either!

Got a page-driven comic and are worries about mobile readers?

Don't worry: We'll be adding in zoom-in features so you can get a closer look at the art and read full pages without boxing creators into the Infinite Scroll!

As mentioned before, Comix Cleric's native mobile view is GREAT for reading webcomics on the go, with no additional setup! Sometimes you just wanna lay in bed scrolling a new webcomic for 4 hours and forget the world.

We want YOUR questions!

Comix Cleric is a lot of work! If you write #webcomics and want to know more! We want to know..well, what you want to know! Have a question about how uploads work? Our mascot? The naming? Feel free to ask whatever, we'll do our best to answer as we can!

Adding pages to your comic is easier than ever. With scheduled posts, a reactive preview, the option to add video/audio, and more being added constantly, Comix Cleric work is progressing nicely! We're excited to share more soon!
