If the media wants to hyperventilate over the polling that puts Farage in No.10, perhaps they could put the same energy into scrutinising his every link to Russia, his dodgy donors, his US/Trump/far right connections, his brazen racism, his councils’ incompetence and his barrelling Brexit shitshow.

Farage has never explained the comments. Vice chair of the all-party parliamentary group against antisemitism, plus Labour, Lib Dems and Greens, say that in the light of the allegations of racist language when he was a teenager, he should explain them now.

During one interview with Jones in 2018, Farage argued that “globalists” were trying to engineer a war with Russia “as an argument for us all to surrender our national sovereignty and give it up to a higher global level”.

On US TV shows and podcasts from 2009-18, Farage discussed supposed plots by bankers to create a global government, citing Goldman Sachs, the Bilderberg group and George Soros as threats to democracy. Included six guest slots with the disgraced far-right US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

whenever I need to reaffirm my faith in humanity I watch YoYo Ma as a 7 year old playing for JFK, and then playing while he waited for his first covid vaccine. I want to put up a statue of him.

I was compelled to look that performance up. The introduction of Yoyo Ma by the speaker is very poignant given where we are as a nation now. May we return to a country whose government values the contributions of immigrants again.

His trying to distinguish his nice, well meaning bigotry from other people’s thoroughly nasty bigotry.
