While vocational education *has* been neglected, it is completely idiotic to basically make an error in the opposite direction and treat the UK HE sector as basically not bringing value to the UK.

We don't know which of these abuses will be given the green light, though to guess from this dismal article, it'll be that if people have committed offences, it's OK if they're then tortured or detained in inhuman conditions, and/or that it's OK to deprive their children permanently of their parent

But the question remains: why is Keir Starmer not making the case for the ECHR and what protections it brings to British people?

He spent his entire career defending it. He wrote a 900 page book on it! A prime minister who left his principles at the door the minute he got into power.

Britain's influence at a European level is already greatly diminished, ofc.

We failed to negotiate any returns agreements before exiting the EU, and the latest attempts to claw our way back are seen as desperate.

There is a live discussion in Strasbourg and Brussels about what it would mean if the UK withdrew from the ECHR.

Some say it would be catastrophic, while others say 'let them leave'; a "slightly more cavalier attitude" as one Council of Europe staffer said.
