Liffey is high and the sky is clear. Beautiful moment of peace in the otherwise bustling walk home this evening.

Well, storm Éowyn has been interesting. The remodelling of the roof at home has definitely left our attic feeling lighter and more airy, but it's not quite what we wanted.

Museums can support creativity. If nothing else, they offer a multitude of potential band names - my current favourite is Rococo Sauceboat.

Checking other specimens suggests there's a fair bit of variation in the development of the postorbital process of the zygomatic arch within the species. It's much more strongly developed in mature males. The unfused sutures and lack of sagittal crest make me think this one was still growing.

An interesting thing about historic zoology collections is that they let you trace how things like names change over time. What used to be commonly called a Hedge Sparrow is now more commonly (and correctly) called a Dunnock.

Sometimes it's easy to forget what a privilege it is to work in a place that oozes atmosphere. Spending 10 minutes talking to an artist in the space is always a great reminder!

Hello Bluesky community!

I run the Dead Zoo in Dublin, but this it's my personal account.

I'll mostly be posting about the collections, sharing mystery objects, and helping out if anyone needs something dead and bony identified. There may also be bad puns and some food pics.
