I write things and learn other things. Sometimes, I'm even good at such things.

Saw this one in an airport and was immediately sucked in. In a world where death has been conquered, the Scythes exist to keep existence temporary and meaningful. Lots of fun, the whole series is good. It's easy to love the characters too, especially Scythe Faraday. 7/10

I went to the gym today and it was closed due to a power outage. Why do I need power to move weights around? Even the machines are mostly manual, that's the whole point

Travels with Charley is an underrated Steinbeck classic. It always fills me with a pride in being American. It shines a light on the way things were in 1960 when Steinbeck made the journey and much of it feels familiar to today. Also, Charley is an ornery poodle with attitude as any old dog. 8/10

Every once in a while, I remember I have a master's degree, and I never know what to do with that information. Definitely the best use of my money to date.

I know everyone and their editor has reviewed this one. The story, world, writing, and characters are all phenomenal. The best part for me was how smart and creative the characters were in the last third of the book. I read the audiobook and sat grinning like an idiot for the last four hours! 9/10

I realized I haven't introduced myself, so...

I’m Parker. I talk about books and stories and sometimes I write them. I tend towards science fiction of all types, but sometimes something else slips through. You never know when or where you'll find a good story.

I suppose I should've added some of those to begin with
I've started writing a novella. It follows a light infantry platoon on one mission in the 2040s during a conflict between superpowers. Any suggestions for a title? I've always been bad at those

I was reminded today of two of my favorite Grimm edition fairy tales. One is The Golden Key sites.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm2... and the other is The Death of the Little Hen sites.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm0... and they both have wildly unsettling endings.

Is it just me or is literary criticism (like in school) almost a quest to turn every story or poem into a sort of fable with a moral?

Who cares how many books you read this year!

Did you read? Yes.
Did it bring you joy? Yes.

You’ve met the only goal that matters.

Distance is not a problem, the problem is humans, because we don't know to love without touching, seeing or listening. And love is felt with the heart, not the body.

Is it just me, or are PG rated insults and slurs often better than the regular ones? Classic example is "Scum" in Star Wars, it's harder hitting than a piece of shit or a fucker. I think it's the intentionality of it, like giving someone a solid eye contact thumbs down instead of flipping them off

Swords should be a more common choice for home defense items. Sure they take some skill to wield, but so do baseball bats and firearms. Besides, a home invader in a t-shirt lowers that necessary skill floor dramatically

In the same vein, I always thought covid should be "the crow virus" or something to that effect. Covid sounds like corvid, a member of corvidae the crows and friends family of birds
I think Bluesky posts should be called flits. Twitter's icon was a bird and birds tweet. This place is a butterfly and those flit and float from place to place

It's either music or books, although I think books and journals really win out

Is it just me or do other people also collect phrases they encounter in the hopes of writing something similar someday?
