Trying to be a historian, suffering as a Blackburn Rovers supporter, failing cyclist but now only in the virtual world.
Despairing of the future!!!
To celebrate 1the 150th anniversary of the founding of Blackburn Rovers, here is the first match report I have found. It is from the Blackburn Standard on 18 December 1875. Is this the Rovers first match?

When was the last time Rovers won 5 in a row?
And I can't remember when we were so tight defensively.

@markcrail.bsky.social Do you know if much work has been done on the role of Chartists in finding work for the Polish Refugees who were deported from Constantinople to Liverpool in 1851? I came across this when I was intrigued to find an entry for Carl Kisielowski in Blackburn in 1901 census.

@markcrail.bsky.social I recently came across Rev. J W Whittaker's sermon to the Chartists in Blackburn Library. Are you aware of it? I haven't found it online but I did find this article.

My article about the violence associated with the 1868 elections in Blackburn, Lancashire. 2 men died during the local and borough elections. Blackburn became notorious nationally and even internationally. I trace the origins of this violence. #C19th

Can any #c18th help Sam?
Book recommendations please for 18th century politics- particularly around Parliament, elections and the rise of parties / the role of PM.

Also is there a good biography of Walpole? Can't find one.
