I used to make comics on the internet, now I mostly get far too invested in advent calendars. I'm 'eruditebaboon' on all the other apps.

Not many people have screamed an expletive in joy at seeing an image of a squirrel in a half-cape, but I am now glad to count myself as a member.

And so we begin.

And one last clue: the ominous words 'Roger la Borde, Storytime Advent Calendar'. The name is given such prominence that I feel like I'm supposed to recognise it. I'm sorry, Roger, but I'm drawing a blank.

Outside of our rabbit family we also have this interloper. Don't worry, he's just bringing in a more engaging book, he's definitely not coming snatch away a couple of kits for dinner.

There's also a lovely art deco lamp (which is also almost certainly not suitable for outdoor use), suggesting that daddy rabbit's got some cash to spend.

Not just any story though, the calendar makes sure to let us know. No this is 'A Christmas Story' thus making this totally appropriate for an advent calendar. But which Christmas story? At this stage I'm not ruling out the novelisation of 'Die Hard'.

Here daddy rabbit reads a story to three young kits, but his reading style may be somewhat lacking as one of them has already fallen asleep.

One thing we can be certain of is that, if these fungal growths are anything to go by, Very Tall Chairs are not suitable for outdoor use.

Well, here we have it, this year's challenger, and it's a stark departure from previous years.

It is time.

Through a complicated series of events, this weekend @neillcameron.bsky.social ended up drawing me as a sidekick for a donut in front of 600 children, who then went on to draw me too. Here are a few of the ones I saw - please note that they all made sure to draw my sweaty armpits.

And here's the process of pencils to final art. I'm only just now realising that I made the letters of 'the Phoenix' as cutouts by accident because I couldn't decide what colour to make them, but they kept that in for the final version. An accident? No, I am just subconsciously a visionary GENIUS.

For those interested in the Creative Process here's a video of my work on this, going from trying out a bunch of initial ideas, to finished pencils. I can't believe I abandoned 'It's Ghostin' Time'.

I did the cover for this week's issue of @the-phoenix-comic.bsky.social! I may have become addicted to rim lighting now.

This book contains so many mad little pixie stories, including my favourite one, where Toby's teeth all come to life and leap out of his mouth. Body horror for kids!
