Man, does it suck for less tenured people looking for jobs, though. Right now may be the worst time to graduate in tech, and I graduated right before the 2008 Great Recession.

The game theory position is to wait. Companies need to see how AI capabilities manifest before making significant workforce investments. Everyone else is doing the same, so there's minimal business risk.

Companies with lower headcounts but effective AI implementation could gain significant pricing advantages. Those who overcommit to hiring now face difficult choices: either maintain an expensive workforce while losing market share or conduct layoffs that damage company morale and future recruiting.
