What makes it so striking is that these are people with whom you have an obvious, built-in social tie. You see each other regularly. These aren’t total strangers, and it’s still too much to ask to even consider the possibility they’re actual people.

Oh my god I could pick your brain for hours about this!!!

Almost got run over twice despite making obvious eye contact with the drivers

Watching antisocial driver behavior in the school drop-off line makes it really clear that the pandemic destroyed whatever few shreds remained of the social compact, just pathological selfishness on display every day

Even beyond the grave the man is still out here doing good in the world. Blessings to Bob Ross and whatever happy little cloud he's sitting on right now.

Thirty paintings created by the bushy-haired, soft-spoken Bob Ross will soon be up for auction to defray the costs of programming for small and rural public television stations suffering under cuts in federal funding. https://to.pbs.org/4nEQMrw
Bob Ross paintings to be auctioned to support public TV stations after federal funding cuts
All profits will help public TV stations with licensing fees for popular programs that include "The Best of Joy of Painting" and "America's Test Kitchen."

That's a great point. Deleting now.

We’re going to have a lot of work to do identifying and punishing every single one of these criminal thugs with the full force of the law.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

Everyone should know by now that this is a pro-Big Boy account, always has been and always will be. We do body positivity for refrigerator-shaped men.

This guy is gonna be four Old Styles, an Italian beef, and a deep-dish pizza into an evening and declare undying allegiance to Great Khan Pritzker

I’m not body shaming but I’m also honest this Texas boy is gonna roll through Portillo’s once and switch allegiances
Daaaaaaaa bearssss

My man is one Italian beef/hot dog/cheese fries combo away from pledging undying allegiance to the Great Khan of Illinois [laudatory]

Lmao at no point here does she say "No, there are no photos of Donald Trump with half-naked young women," she just goes straight to attacking Whitehouse. I'm not sure how she could've made him look guiltier unless she'd actually thrown the original photos at the senators.

NOTABLE -- Pam Bondi refuses to answer direct questions about if the FBI has incriminating photos of Trump with half-naked young women, but instead deflects from them by attacking Sen. Whitehouse

The need for fearless. independent journalism has never been greater. Which is why I'm excited to announce that I have accepted a job to become the Head of Research at @heartlandsignal.bsky.social. We have big things in store so check us out.

Spent every third or fourth weekend in Portland from birth to age 18, mom lives in Vancouver, and I'm up there at least four times every year. Probably my favorite city in the world.

My coach is what I'd describe as a meathead savant and his approach - which accords perfectly with my 20+ years of lifting - amounts to "eat lots of food, lift some heavy weights, and don't take too much gear (if that's a thing you do)." It's not exciting but it works.

Exactly! If they ran a milquetoast R who shut up about culture war issues and said "I don't care about LGBTQ+ stuff, just make the taxes lower and leave my guns alone," they'd start at a 45 percent baseline

Broadly speaking I think his content is unobjectionable and people will make decent gains on his programs, but the whole "science-based lifting" thing is a complete marketing gimmick

I know several former Republicans, including one who worked for the RNC, who don't vote for Republican candidates in Portland.
patrickwyman.bsky.social
For example, nominating Joe Kent - twice! - to run and lose in a purple district in southwest Washington was a choice, and nobody made the GOP do it.
patrickwyman.bsky.social
It surely couldn't be that the GOP in the greater Portland area has completely gone off the fascist, conspiratorial deep end and openly allied themselves with far-right militias, thereby alienating the (not at all radical) voting base in the metro.
alexbaumhardt.bsky.social
This was lazy reporting, and the Times would have done better for its audience exploring why so many Portlanders voted in DSA council. Article includes nothing from these voters. Describing Republicans in Portland as an “endangered species” is a choice.

Mark Sanchez starting a fight with a grease-truck driver in an alley in Indianapolis might be surprising to the NFL community but not to those of us who remember his time at USC. It's insane to me how memory-holed the immediate pre-social-media era has been.

Never watched Full House, any of the TGIF lineup, or most popular 90s TV, for that matter - it was either cartoons or full-blown adult programming, like we watched "Frasier" and "60 Minutes" as a family

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.
