They are cool with draining the grid and the aquifers if it means they can replace human labor. That's the whole story, and I wish we heard it told exactly like that more often.
Real life is not like science fiction, where the power usage required for processing rarely, if ever, factors into the plot.
I still care very much about the ethics of AI usage but I really think its environmental and infrastructural impact desperately needs more exposure.
