when I read, unless the author goes out of their way to describe a character, I don’t pay that much attention to race. I’m sure I mentally assume they’re white, but if I find out later, they’re not, I am not bothered by it.

Sure, and The Elvenbane (I typo’ed this as Elvenbabe, and that fits too) series had a few POV shifts, but mostly women.

i grew up reading Andre Norton as my default author, and I would estimate half her protags were women. They were all competent in their own field, so I have no problem with female POV.
