The Minister who introduced the Gender Recognition Bill in the House of Lords in 2003 made it clear that "a transsexual person would have protection under the Sex Discrimination Act [the predecessor to the Equality Act] as a person of the acquired sex or gender." /1

essentially, the criticisms are being taken seriously, and they will probably sink the bill before it even gets to the lords, where it would have to go through the same process

it's a private member's bill, so it can't be carried over into the new session (prob June) if it hasn't finished progress in both houses. there is mountain of amendments - about 500 so far - which are all being debated at length, basically blocking it from moving on from committee
