Like cricket, music, interesting facts, geopolitics and comedy. Not necessarily in that order or all at the same time
Even for Trump it feels that crazy that it either won’t happen or will be cancelled after the tourist industry is devastated. (Personally I like it as it gives me a very valid reason not to visit)

Oddly from a local level I’d say most of their readership are anti flags up lampposts because they are worried about property values and they look tacky. They’re ok with decently quality flags on flagpoles in suburban gardens
December 12, 2025 at 12:08 PM
Of course and I’m certainly not defending idiots who put flags up lampposts or paint roundabouts
Nor am I defending the DM or saying they have any journalistic integrity I’m just saying the story has only just broke locally & people will start to react.

My only knowledge of Wargrave is that I used to have to do some work there & as soon as I saw Wargrave on a sign I used to sing Wargrave to the tune of Duran Duran’s “Wild boys”

The likes of the Daily Mail are the ones who look at local press to get a story like that & we will have to see what happens in the coming days but that’s more “this young person killed this nice old person doing that thing I said was dangerous!” Not “man dies being stupid”
December 12, 2025 at 11:58 AM
I’m not sure about that as many other activities would have at best like this local press saying “local man dies” now you have to wait for national press to pick up/rob the story and how people react to it. It happened last month only seen today & something tells me reaction on FB & X very different
December 12, 2025 at 11:53 AM
Going to be interesting seeing reactions to this as it does kinda highlight the sort of people involved in this so called grassroots movement campaign that they say isn’t racist or thuggish whilst giving valid reasons to stop anyone climbing up lampposts & to take all flags down

When it’s all about the grift you have to chase the money and the big money is with the yank evangelical Nazis. “Football Lads For Jesus” & “Yank Evangelical Nazis” would both be great Indie band names
December 12, 2025 at 11:27 AM
The story does make a very good case for the council’s to take down all the flags and make sure the police target anyone who tries to put any more up (for their own safety of course). Only shock is it took this long for someone to be seriously hurt
December 12, 2025 at 11:18 AM
Yeah some Aussies say that neither Melbourne or Sydney wanted the capital or more accurately the government buildings so they sent all the politicians somewhere where most Aussies don’t go. Probably no truth in it but a good story

Our local pubs get used by the sounding areas for Christmas drinks have to admit I love it in our favourite pub watching all the regular locals I know getting angry because there’s a family or group of students in their favourite seat. Get in early stay late & laugh at all the states you see

Agree but I think one term only for 10 years would make it cheaper & easier to run and cap at 300, it’s stupidly high at the moment
December 12, 2025 at 10:33 AM
Fun with flags becomes lethal
December 12, 2025 at 9:40 AM
Thankyou and I’m sure we will no matter what happens on the pitch

It does really surprise me than there are British Mormon’s & Scientology followers but their numbers are small. They’re are many branches of Christianity here but US “pay me to talk to Jesus” will never take hold here
December 12, 2025 at 8:25 AM
See this is the thing IRL multi-culturalism does work well and most do not have an issue with what faith others have but for most Brits the US evangelicals (especially TV preachers) are seen as a joke (a dangerous joke but a joke nonetheless).
December 12, 2025 at 8:23 AM
Majority of white Brits don’t want what the far right is selling and the US version that wants their so called Christian values & more white babies isnt going to go down well at all. Then you remember most of the British far right are just ageing football hooligans
December 12, 2025 at 8:12 AM
I agree people can be easily lead with lies (just look at Brexit & now Reform) but oddly with religion if it wasn’t for immigration Britain would be far more secular as many immigrants coming here are more religious. That could really split the U.K./US far right beliefs
December 12, 2025 at 8:09 AM
What you’re talking about is a country a very long time ago and many of the worst people set sail to America sighting religious freedom because their view was too extreme. I think & Hope this will help damage the far right here because we are far more secular than the US

Arh the standard should have read more replies first….. sorry to be the 7th+ person to say that

Can’t be balanced as it’s only one! You need two mince pies
December 11, 2025 at 1:31 PM
Nothing festive about it*

It being drinking loads and eating thousands of calories….. yeah that sounds like the perfect description of Christmas festivities.
December 11, 2025 at 1:29 PM
I don’t really mind if they keep it called the House of Lords but it shouldn’t be a life peerage and numbers should be capped at 300. Elected for 10 years would work
December 11, 2025 at 1:00 PM
There should be more womens rugby players on that list, sadly there will be loads of votes for people with Hobbies not sports star.
Team of the year is going to be interesting England women’s rugby team vs England women’s football team. Correct answer should be Rugby
