Have now dropped my youngest at college for the new spring semester—excited and hopeful and yearning for them both.

But it doesn’t get easier.. the same beautiful profound ache I felt dropping them in grammar school and of letting them go and do their thing. Kyrie eleison.

Oh really? I never would have suspected such a thing! 🙄

Let’s renew ourselves to cherishing and supporting what is uniquely human— and that includes doing what is hard persistently—which we seem to have become allergic to

This may seem like a boring Gospel reading, listing three times 14 generations to the birth of Jesus, the Messiah. Yet it signifies what Jesus realized and that Israelites looked to numerical patterns to confirm, that it was God’s plan.

Keep watch, dear Lord,
with those who
work or watch or weep
this night
& give your angels
charge over those who sleep.

Tend the sick, Lord Christ;
give rest to the weary
bless the dying
soothe the suffering
pity the afflicted
shield the joyous;
& all for your love's sake.

Amen.
