It’s the editorialising on the “news” pages that annoys me the most. Comment is fine, it is basically a right wing newspaper, but news used to be reported with greater integrity!

A classic example of which is Melanie Phillips’s piece in The Times today in which she describes the verdict in the Colston toppling trial as a symbol of the death of civilisation (more or less) and the reason modern juries are dodgy - they don’t always share her prejudices apparently. Shocking.

The reduction in the role of juries concerns me too.

At the end of her piece Phillips rants about the liberal values which have risen in recent decades influencing juries. Like Trump, Jenrick & Reform, presumably she’s like judges appointed for their conservative ideological purity. Chilling!

To be fair (and pedantic) the Crucifixion happened before early Christian times, which started three days later with the resurrection, a miracle that, by coincidence, Reeves and Starmer are also hoping for.
