Chasing the shiny bits in the dark. Punishing my legs for not being rocket packs. Passionate about density, transit, walkability, and cycling infrastructure. Recovered “avid cyclist”. Big YIMBY. Capitol Hill but I’m not cool and only have one tattoo.

Two years ago I got to spend a couple of weeks in Coastal Maine at this time of year and holy moly I have never wanted to wear a cozy sweater and sip hot apple cider walking around more in my life.

While this is bad and authoritarian, it is nowhere nearly “about as authoritarian as it gets”.

Do Democrats fundamentally lack imagination? It can get so much worse than this. And it will likely continue to get worse before it gets better, if it ever does.

Bruce Harrell likes to bluster about standing up to Trump

But behind the scenes, SPD is collaborating with ICE, and Harrell’s trying to hide it until after the election

ICE wants data? No prob, that will take 4 days

Journalist question about data sent to ICE? Sorry, best we can do is 4 months

Yes! I had the same thought when I lived in WS.

I was stunned and amazed at the time there was zero infrastructure for getting onto Admiral from the trail (stairs aren’t bike infrastructure).

Seattle so utterly fails the test of being “bikeable by non-cyclists”. You kind of have to an adrenaline junkie, to some degree, to get around by bike here.

That said generally I was biking to Admiral Junction from further up the hill, so I did this maneuver maybe ten times?
paulrusof.bsky.social
When I lived in West Seattle I did this exactly once.

Also terrible, but I preferred it to taking the stairs or the above option, was riding up SW Manning to 30th Ave SW and then turning left onto Admiral.

A terrifying intersection on a bike, not recommended, and the best option we have.

“We’re going to build world class protected bicycle infrastructure and then force you to not use it unless you’re passing through! We don’t want people on bikes to patronize businesses! Ever!”
paulrusof.bsky.social
Why does SDOT refuse to build bicycle infrastructure with the ability to turn?

This is a such a trope at this point. It’s like they continue to not believe that people cycle for daily transportation, and only cycle for exercise with no specific destination.

I do not own an e-bike and regularly have to exceed 28 mph just getting around Seattle.

Drivers routinely go 30-35 mph in 25 mph zones, and if a bike lane is blocked or just flat out dangerous and badly designed (cough, Pine, cough) then I’m riding vehicularly and keeping pace with traffic.

Honestly living in West Seattle this felt like the mainstream perspective of most of my neighbors 😅

Immigrants are a huge part of what makes living in a city great. I wish Seattle did a better job at mixing the populations.

All Linux is worthy of Linux cred.

In my foray into Linux it took me 6 months to get my Ubuntu install stable.

This is a wild thing to say when defending a mayor that has exclusively taken money and resources away from programs that help people experiencing homelessness and put it into cops and sweeps that displace those people and destroy what little personal property they have.

“It’s not important what happens to vulnerable people, only that I and people close to me feel safe”

- Every Enlightened Centrist

It is important that everyone who lives in and visits a city feel safe, within reason, but it is more important how that is accomplished.

My little act of rebellion is that when a grocery store doesn’t have hand carts and I’m buying a hand-cart amount of groceries, while shopping I just put my groceries in my reusable bag.

I’m not pushing a cart around for a jar of salsa and two apples.

At the end of time is hot sauce.

At the beginning of time is shredded fried potatoes.

Everything in between serves one of those two. The alpha and the omega.

I visited the apartment building ICE raided on Tuesday today. Story to come, but you can walk right in. Half of the apartments have no doors on them. Children's stuff abandoned in some flats. *Citizen* residents told me they were arrested and held for hours in zipties. This is America
