These seeds don't need stratification. If you would like to sow some, it's not too late. I have enough seed to share. You want some?

We have two sweetferns beside each other, about 5' apart (not near a wall) and the spicebushes are 3' away from a wall.

A few years ago one popped up in my Aquelgia canadensis winter sowing pot. I saved the seeds and sowed these inside, in February. Natural Themes or A Cultivated Art may have them but neither ship. Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library may have them in their seed exchange at the end of the year.

These particular native plant seeds don't need cold moist stratification. Instead of waiting to spring sow (using the winter sowing method), I warmed soil with a heat mat and grew them on with grow lights.

Bins were in sets of 4 from Costco. Inside the bins are mostly dollar store or Canadian Tire solo cups, with some smaller plastic cups or regular plastic 3" tall plant pots. This setup is on it's 3rd WS season! I use our recycling-bound containers for seeds I germinate inside.

Indoor sowing is a nice way to beat the winter blahs!

Our little prairie planting looking fabulous in its second year was a highlight for us. #nativeplants #prairie #meadow #kingston #ontario
