Not sure it fits your needs exactly it I’ve used glass Xmas tree ornaments with matte metal deposited on the outside. The one source I found stopped making them. I found that the very shiny ones are usually coated on the inside and also that the coating on plastic ones was not conductive.

Awful. I’m sorry you and your students (and the whole country) have to deal with this.

Coil springs generally do have constant pull force. Investigating this is a great idea!
