We constantly hear about the need for Ireland to invest in defence to protect privately owned subsea cables passing through our marine territory from unspecified threats.

Yet, actual planes carrying actual munitions used in an actual genocide continue to pass through our airspace unchecked.

This has real purchase in Ireland where ethnonationalism and a certain 'indigenous revivalism' overlap - disconnected from a Marxian economic analysis, Irish identity (whether language or a flag) can be appropriated and wielded to exclusionary and regressive ends.

In reality, the US holds effective veto power over Irish foreign policy due to our dependence on US multinationals.

This is a good sign but most of Gavin's transfers will go to Humphreys and there will be a ramping up efforts to undermine Catherine in the next two weeks.

I wonder if this was expressed as publicly owned, or socially owned, supermarkets would the response be different?

If we can't get the majority of people behind not for profit groceries (supporting local, sustainable food production), we're losing.

Variations of this argument are made all the time by Irish politicians and analysts.

There is a direct line between US military planes in Shannon and the US military pageant in Croke Park yesterday. Hosting their military in any way makes Ireland an enabler of US-Israeli genocide in Gaza.
