The Elementary Teachers of Toronto (a subgroup of the province-wide union @etfoeducators.bsky.social) will be leading a protest at the Toronto District School Board head office Tuesday at 4:30 pm regarding the crisis at an east Toronto elementary school & the broader implications of that crisis.

I attended a workshop this afternoon on policies & practices for school boards (with respect to censorship, school libraries & demands to remove books) with amazing public district school board trustees (such as Meena Waseem of the Waterloo DSB) at the OPSBA’s Public Education Symposium.

The morning at the Public Education Symposium hosted by the Ontario Public School Boards' Association started with a keynote address by Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé on the Ombudsman’s role with Ontario’s public school boards. Next is a breakout session on privacy law in Ontario public schools.

At this point, if you’re Canadian & you support US President Donald Trump, you are a traitor to Canada.

Catherine McKenna, former Minister of the Environment & Climate Change (2015-2019) & author of Run Like a Girl, gives the keynote address at the 2026 Public Education Symposium hosted by the Ontario Pubic School Boards Association.

The keynote is very inspiring.

I’m getting an early start at the 2026 Public Education Symposium (today & tomorrow) hosted by the Ontario Public School Boards Association (this year in Toronto).

Trump took back his invitation to Carney from the “Board of Peace.”

Thank God! (There’s an easy way out, now, for Carney.)

First, it’s not a board. Trump is already making the decisions solely like this dis-invitation.

Second, with Putin & Netanyahu on it, it’s not a board about real peace.

Skating was great (in the suburbs). I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I don’t really know where to skate outdoors in downtown Toronto (other than at City Hall). I’ve heard of skating at the Bentway but I’ve never gone yet.

If you’re a Catholic teacher or principal in a Catholic school board in Ontario, please stop pretending that your board is not teaching & spreading anti-queer hate & that you (despite your queer-inclusive practices, which is better than not doing so) are a part of spreading that anti-queer hate.

The person who invented or at least popularized the Christmas nativity scene, St. Francis of Assisi, was a vegetarian. I think that’s a part of why he placed so much emphasis on the presence of animals.

These 2 top stories in today’s New York Times (that VP JD Vance (& perhaps the next POTUS) chose deliberately not to upset his antisemitic base & that CBS chose not to show an immigration story in its 60 minutes episode not to upset POTUS Trump) shows how dangerous the US has become in just 1 year.

What is sad is that Catholic school boards in Ontario teach (using public funds to do so) that such love is evil.

It is tragic that we allow Catholic school boards in Ontario to use public funds to effectively spread anti-queer hate in teaching that a love like that of Hunter & Kip is evil.

An example that it’s not always better to have trustees is the York Catholic board. A majority of its trustees voted in 2023 (based on anti-queer beliefs) not to fly the Pride flag at its head office or schools. Other boards’ trustees have made similarly harmful decisions against queer students.

Thursday I was a witness at a justice-related Senate of Canada committee meeting. Friday I was seeing clients at my office-site on Albert Street in Ottawa. Today I am seeing clients at my office-site in Brossard, Québec. Tomorrow I’m at my Vaughan, Ontario office attending family court all day.

Today I’m in Ottawa with the famous Chateau Laurier as my day office meeting with clients while also attending in person (across the street) a Senate of Canada justice committee to answer questions from senators about why increasing funding for unified family courts is good public policy.

It was wrong for US Secretary of War Hegseth to depict Franklin committing war crimes. It is wrong in response images to depict Franklin as a defendant for war crimes at The Hague court.

Franklin is a beloved Canadian icon standing for & inspiring kindness, empathy & inclusivity.

The Trump admin supports remigration (see Homeland Security tweet), which means the return of non-ethnically European immigrants to their place of racial origin.

While the US continues its descent into official racism, let’s work harder/smarter to prevent this in Canada especially in our schools.

Comics like this seem funny, but it’s an example of how there will be an attempt to “flood the zone,” so that we don’t focus on the evil & the coverup that happened by powerful men in sexually assaulting children.

Today is #RemembranceDay in Canada. Canadian soldiers fought fascism in World Ward II so that we would use our freedom today never to choose fascism. Help your American friends to see that a MAGA-inspired fascism is creeping up dangerously in the US. Work to make sure it doesn’t creep into Canada.

Sponsorship of professional Canadian women’s sports matters to me. Seeing that Canadian Tire sponsors Canadian PWHL (women’s hockey) teams, I made a deliberate effort today to make the 5-minute extra drive past Home Depot to buy my snow shovel at Canadian Tire (in time for the GTA snow tomorrow).

What I like about in-person court attendances in Toronto & York Region is that the courts are along or within walking distance of subway or express bus routes. I prefer to take public transit when I can.

Do you prefer to take public transit when available, or do you prefer to drive or be driven?
