What is so haunting too, as the US descends into authoritarianism, is how Trump is intentionally protecting so many rich & powerful pedophiles.

A great thing about 🇺🇸 is how Bad Bunny (a citizen from Puerto Rico, so popular worldwide) was chosen to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show.

What makes 🇺🇸 not great is that 10s of millions of Americans will choose not to watch based on their anti-Latino racism.

It’s good that JD Vance was booed (perhaps the only boos) at the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony in Milan today, because maybe at least 1 out of the 10s of millions of MAGA Americans will realize that Trump’s claim that the US is respected more than before (because of Trump) is a lie.

Premier Ford referring to this as “a few bad apples” is not enough. This alleged corruption by so many officers (& the many more police officers who likely saw something & did not report suspicious activity), to support organized crime, calls for a public inquiry.

While we in Canada imagine that we’re better than other countries in the concept of the rule of law, we also imagine that we’re a safer place for queer persons.

The fact is that 3 provinces (ON, AB, SK) have pubic schools boards teaching that it’s a sin to be queer. 😢

What I said is true. I’m a lawyer & a teacher in Ontario & Catholic. We cannot pretend we are so amazing at LGBTQ+ inclusion when 3 of our provinces (representing about a half of Canada’s population) have public education systems with Catholic boards/districts effectively teaching anti-LGBTQ+ hate.
February 4, 2026 at 9:48 PM
But ON, AB & SK have public Catholic school boards/districts that teach their students that it’s a sin (evil!) to be in a gay relationship or to identify as trans.

I understand the need to believe that Canada is safe. It’s easier to believe our society is not cruel to LGBTQ+ persons than to change.

It’s good that Catholic priests like Father James Martin’s queer-inclusive efforts are trickling down into some Catholic public school boards in Ontario.

But Catholic boards across Ontario still teach the Catholic beliefs that it’s a sin to live fully & openly as queer persons.
