And no, most revenue actually comes from the bigger licenses (and even some custom licenses recently), but I want to keep affordable options for freelancers and smaller, lower-impact projects.

It’s not like I am unhappy with my current model, but I do see the advantages of pricing based on company size in comparison, especially for clarity. Then again, I also think it makes sense to have different pricing for different projects/media with different visibility and impact. Complicated.

I think every indie foundry is in the same boat. My licensing model on jonastype.com has already gone through some changes, and I know there’s still plenty of room for improvement. (I’m a bit limited technically with the checkout though, as I’m selling through Gumroad, but there’s reasons for that)

Crazy right? Finding the right balance between offering fair options for everyone and making the model easily understandable is truly challenging. I think it’s great that publishers are experimenting more with licensing models today, but it also means everyone is using different metrics now.

✅ UPDATE (1/2): Welcome’s CEO mentioned he wasn’t aware of our original design, and took steps to resolve the issue. We have now agreed to collaborate on a redesign under mutually accepted terms. The current website will remain online temporarily, for an agreed-upon period.

temper.one is a tool I’m developing for building personal web pages for free. Alongside a selection of Google Fonts and typefaces by my own foundry Jonas Type, it also features the full catalogue of Japan-based nice to type — including the recently released Neue Sammlung.

It was great to see how quickly the students embraced experimentation — thinking of web technologies as creative materials rather than constraints.

Many thanks to @borism.bsky.social for the invitation!
