One predictable downside of making it "no this is only about ACA, our only demand" is that does get harder to defend as time goes on and the shutdown pain stacks up. The line for giving up on that, taking its loss as the lesser evil, is much lower than "we're not funding this fascist police state."

To say this was Dems voting, e.g., to fund ICE paychecks isn't unfair or an exaggeration. It's literally true. That they'd already given up on even trying to do anything about that doesn't change it, it's still in there. This is what constitutional accountability for the power of the purse is for.

Exactly. Their whole movement is about opposing any attempt to extend fair treatment to anybody who isn't male, straight, white, and right-wing. They view themselves as a desperately oppressed minority.

TAKEN AT HER COURT HEARING. To all those Americans deceiving themselves that ICE is only going after rapists and murderers, another reminder that’s a lie. They are targeting folks doing the right thing, because it is easier and otherwise they don’t have enough people to arrest. Wake up now.

Don't worry. They'll gripe about this and that but they'll come up with some stupid reason why they have to vote for Trump again in 2028. "Socialism" or something.

No Jake the late-medieval Catholic Church was on the brink of realigning itself with secular leftism, and ushering in a socialist world order. It is Huldrych Zwingli's personal fault that this did not happen.

I found this piece sad too, but mostly because it is part of a years-long effort by progressives to understand what "really" animates Trump voters.
We already know! It is racism, misogyny and misinformation. I know that sounds condescending or whatever but it's simply what all evidence suggests.

Our tradition is the one that actually has human nature figured out, and they can't stand it.
Or more likely they're just so ignorant they have no clue what we believe. Either way, it sucks.
