TLDR #3: 'Web and digital for graphic designers' (Leonard et al., 2020) is a wide-ranging web design text. Packs plenty into one pedagogical paperback. Full of fun errors like "the Internet was used in WW2", "our closing paragraph is a bullet point", and "a quarter of our index entries are wrong".

TLDR #2: 'The complete color harmony' (Sutton, 2024) is verbose and somewhat airy-fairy, but full of ready-to-use colour palettes. The book is a primer on the use of colour in – crucially – advertisement, branding, and fashion. Great for that, of limited use for broader artistic understanding.

TLDR #1: 'Typography essentials' (Saltz, 2019) is a visual feast that covers the basics. It does misspell its own title in the introduction, and I almost completely lost my mind trying to read it as an ebook, but these are small matters in the scheme of things.

3. A standout is 'City across time', a children's book showing how an imagined city changes over the centuries as archaeological strata are deposited. I'm a sucker for cross-sections and this hits. It got me hyped to keep working on Dungeon Dig Site, and maybe draw some cross-sections of my own.

2. 'Strange maps: An atlas of cartographic curiosities' covers a lot of ground, taking as its subject "every unusual map we could find, historical or fictional". One of those books that has something for everyone, but I liked the examples from the real world (like Märket Reef) best.

1. 'Plotted: A literary atlas' converts classic literature into maps. It's a hit-or-miss premise which works really well for Moby Dick, the Library of Babel, and Pride & Prejudice, but is stretched thin when applied to e.g. a 128-word poem.

Not a February Zine project but I am talking about it anyway, oh and ALSO I made a tiny little downloadable printable foldable supporting zine that just gives you page references to go alongside the game

As for stand-outs, I'm picking these four posters as my favourites of the 31 I made. (See the original posts in the #fantasticaluniquities tag for art credits and font choices!)

In January 2026, while reading books on graphic design, I made a #TTRPG poster every day to develop those skills. I don't have the time to sustain that daily pace, but I have a bunch of sketched ideas I hope to get around to making. #fantasticaluniquities #art

I have some reflections on the month:

Each week the cultists can get into trouble.

If they have high fervour, they could attack a nearby town, gamble on fights between their pet monsters, or start a holy war.

With high divergence, they might sacrifice an unpopular cultist, merge with a sect of diabolists, or try out cannibalism.

Trapped behind the veil of the unreal, your ability to reach into the world is limited. Each week you can attempt one action. For example, you could send an avatar of yourself to admonish your straying cultists, greatly reducing divergence but raising their fervour as a side-effect.

Dropping a little #devlog about the actual gameplay of Overzealous, my new solo #TTRPG of cartoonish cult devilry. This is a tactical game that revolves around five ever-changing stats.

As an outer god, you'll need enough CULTISTS and IMMINENCE to perform the ritual that manifests you.

Here's my twenty-ninth #fantasticaluniquities poster! When I was first thinking about doing this graphic design challenge, one of my ideas was a whole magazine-style series on #TTRPG adventuring equipment.

I've been tuning up the Overzealous visuals as I get closer to book production.

🔺 Tweaking iconography and colour
🔺 Improved heading fonts
🔺 Changed page number style and placement for readability
🔺 Dialed in the book's navigation tabs

Designing some elements for a future poster. So far featuring art by Alderdoodle, Fernando Salvaterra, & Texturelabs, but the idea is shaping up to be a complex one with lots of separate pieces.
