There’s a really interesting moment in Chaucer’s Franklin’s Tale where a character “achieves” the impossible task of removing coastal rock formations by hiring a magician to “maken illusioun”. No rocks are actually removed, but the narration certainly seems to legitimate his accomplishment!

I think Bleak House works pretty well for that objective (and I found myself with new ideas for my own pedagogy reading the study)—but it’s not applicable to discussions of discourse on Bluesky or any other social media platform

This study is testing reading comprehension skills of English majors in college, to see how well Kansas 4-year English programs were doing at improving students capability of “reading lengthy, complex, abstract prose texts as well as synthesizing information and making complex inferences”
