Morrison has worked with the wildest variety of artists. I remembering reading Animal Man at an age I was a bit too young to properly appreciate it, though I collected it thoroughly. The cognitive dissonance between the hyper detail of the Boland covers and the cartoony Truog interiors was intense.

I love both of these guys! I think a GL would take a normal Nova, but Richard Ryder has the power of the whole corps. Would love to see Richard with a power ring!

Very interesting! I love the art and the adventures but never knew the history and all the reworkings. Certainly was a product of its time—or times, really. Belgium in the Congo, yikes. I haven’t read these in years. I will have to check out the Soviet book. Just in time for Xmas!

I often think of that GL issue where someone called out Guy Gardner for using the ring to chisel his body rather than working out. That is definitely what I would do. “In cheatest day, in biggest bite, no cellulite will escape my smite!”

I made Stud when I got overcome with nostalgia and wanted bring some of the grit of the old He-Man minicomics to the He-Man children’s cartoon. And when I considered how superficial He-Man’s heterosexuality was, I figured Stud should be gay. And also deal with the fascist tendencies of superheroes.
