This documentary-style video interview of me has racked up 615,000 views, 23,000 likes, and 2600 comments in Youtube in just the last week. It lays out in 15 minutes my big idea that America is entering its fourth great reinvention - which might be why it went viral.

Something better is coming. The mess we’re in now is an inflection point. How we choose to meet this moment will determine how painful the change is.
Happy Fourth of July. Watch this new documentary-style video that does a great job laying out my big idea that America is now going through a reinvention that has happened just three times before. This is not about Trump today but the next 25 years. @freethink.com

This new essay of mine draws off some big lessons I have learned in my 30 years in the tech world of San Francisco and applies them to other industries and fields in terms of what we should now do around the arrival of AI. The big example is K-12 education.

Here's the full Newsom address. It's great. (99% anyway, it's a tiny quibble but can we please stop reflexively adding "hard working" as the sole acceptable preceding adjective for immigrants)

This is a superb speech by @governor.ca.gov just now.

Clear. Strong. Simple. Direct. Angry—in a way that appeals to the best in people, not the worst. Seven plus minutes of the most effective rhetoric in response to Trump.

This is how you want a leader to talk.

I’m particularly proud of my new essay that I have not seen anyone else layout out. The big idea is that AI is actually under-hyped & will actually bring civilizational-scale changes that humans last went through more than 250 years ago in The Enlightenment.

AI May Bring Civilizational-scale Change & The New Enlightenment
The last time we saw a step-change in human understanding and a wave of mega-inventions, we also saw the birth of a new civilization in The Enlightenment. Here we go again.

There are two worlds that talk about “abundance” and I have a foot in both, but they don’t seem to be talking to each other — and should. One is in left-of-center politics and the other world is in tech. We need to combine the insights from both - so I did.

I wrote an essay a couple weeks ago that went viral on how America could be heading into a reinvention like only a few times before. My new piece this week lays out the case about why this happens every 80 years and points out all the evidence around us now.

Why America Reinvents Itself Every 80 Years - and Is Doing So Again
The three main drivers are the arrival of transformative technologies, the looming potential for vast economic growth, plus the right alignment of certain generations. We have them all right now.
