I keep seeing people just do something they think maybe would be helpful and watching that snowball and it's just amazing. Don't wait for permission, don't wait to be invited. Pick something you think needs to happen and that you can do, and do that thing.
If you're trying to figure out what to do right now, my advice is to just pick a thing that you think might be useful in some way, however small, and do it. Doing a thing leads you to doing another, bigger thing, and prepares you for that next thing.
