Thrilled to share that I’ve been awarded an EMBO postdoctoral fellowship to study nigrostriatal axon regeneration and Parkinson’s disease in the Lammel lab at UC Berkeley 🧠🔬

Grateful for this amazing opportunity and excited to join the EMBO fellows community! 🤩

Too excited not to share this beauty!

Don’t miss @handejong.bsky.social latest work at #cosyne2025 this Saturday!

Featuring wireless fiber photometry in a brand new foraging task 🪤 and discounted future value modeling in different accumbens subregions!

Huge thanks to Drew Kesner for organizing this panel—despite being Bluesky-less! Wishing the NIH situation was different so he could join us. ⛰️

Day 5 at #wcbr2025 – don’t miss our panel!

Join us at 4:30 PM for a session fully dedicated to the medial #septum : inputs, outputs, and role in #motivation & #cognition. 🧠

Excited to share the stage with @smikulovic.bsky.social, @eliftuncozcan.bsky.social, and Dave Bortz. 👩‍🔬👨‍🔬

Day 3 at #wcbr2025 - lots of dopamine, acetylcholine, dorsal and ventral striatum, midbrain circuits and motivated behaviors. Learning so much from such a diverse group of scientists from single dendrite in vivo 2P imaging to high density recordings and modeling 🧠🤯 the field is moving so fast!

Kicked off the first day at #WCBR with an amazing plenary from Suzanne Dickson on #ghrelin, #hunger signaling and its effect on #hypothalamic and #midbrain circuits 🧠

Amazing science in an amazing venue! 🤩

Is #Fluorescence Tuesday a thing?

Still trying to improve the staining protocol, but love this pic of SN #neurons 🔬🧠🐭

Are you (or do you know) someone studying the transcription factor Ascl4/Mash4? 🧠 #neurodevelopment #differentiation #neurons #wiring

N.b. This is not the same as the acyl CoA synthetase protein ASCL4

I have some questions 💡

Please share! 🙏

3️⃣ Within the GABAergic population, we identified 6 subclusters in the continuum.

These include:
- PV+ and calretinin+ neurons, confirming prior observations
- NPAS1+/Sst+ neurons, which form a distinctive subpopulation
- Nts expressing neurons, adding to the complexity of the GABA population

2️⃣ ChAT-expressing neurons are better described along a transcriptomic continuum with two distinct endpoints:

- one predominantly expresses Galanin, a neuropeptide largely underexplored
-one co-expresses GABAergic machinery, aligning with the previously reported ChAT-GABA co-releasing neurons

Key findings:

1️⃣ Gad1 and Gad2, traditionally considered specific to GABAergic neurons, also show unexpected expression in ChAT and VGluT2-expressing neurons, challenging established assumptions about neuronal markers in the MSDB.
