I think journalism means listening to the story, , questioning it and relating that experience in words.
Much of what passes for journalism in 2025 does nothing of the sort. Clickbait opinionism is not journalism. Neither is striding around with a set agenda and an iPhone.

I've removed the paywall from a trilogy of posts I wrote a while ago about my visit in 2015 to Iran. I would like them to be read, of course I would. Especially at a time when misunderstanding and prejudice are a seductive common currency.

Incomparable is a word used too easily when someone dies but there isn’t anyone else to whom Tom Lehrer, who has died aged 97, could be compared (apart from to say that compared to Lehrer they were rubbish). Iconoclast, wit, verbal Gymnast, terrific musician. RIP.

This one was a matter of time (as for all of us) but Tom Lehrer, accomplished academic turned satarist, musician, and performer was a unique soul. His candor and support for smut, BDSM, and sexual freedom was inspiring.
In his final years, he released all his works to the public domain.
