Calla Mairead Walsh was born on June 9, 2004, and was raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts.[2][1] Her father, Chris Walsh, is an English professor and serves as director of Boston University's college writing program.[3] Walsh is the second oldest of four siblings and grew up with her younger brothers and sisters in a family home not far from Harvard Square.[1] Walsh began her political activism in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at the age of 14 or 15. In 2019, she helped organise the Boston Youth Climate Strike. Walsh attended Shady Hill School, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School,[4] and the private, all-girls college preparatory day school Winsor School, then enrolled as an undergraduate at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, later dropping out.[1][5]

Always reminds me of this Ursula K Le Guin line. Trump’s thing is def adjacent but IMO different cuz it’s the majority wielding the stereotype to create the image of a useful minority (see also: “positive stereotypes” about east asians) rather than the group themselves internalizing it
But I didn’t and still don’t like making a cult of women’s knowledge, preening ourselves on knowing things men don’t know, women’s deep irrational wisdom, women’s instinctive knowledge of Nature, and so on. All that all too often merely reinforces the masculinist idea of women as primitive and inferior – women’s knowledge as elementary, primitive, always down below at the dark roots, while men get to cultivate and own the flowers and crops that come up into the light. The impossibility of getting to the interview stage spurs jobless workers to submit more applications, which pushes them to rely on ChatGPT to build their résumés and respond to screening prompts. (Harris told me he does this; he used ChatGPT pretty much every day in college, and finds its writing to be more “professional” than his own.) And so the cycle continues: The surge in same-same AI-authored applications prompts employers to use robot filters to manage the flow. Everyone ends up in Tinderized job-search hell.
