And the WRWC final... #ENGvsCAN

Win or lose today, the transformation in this wallabies team from the team that went into the first Lions test is incredible. With ball in hand they're a joy to watch. Exhibition stuff but played under pressure against the best teams. #NZLvsAUS

The Elephant Man.
I watched it again last year with my son Chinua (15 at the time). We sat there for ten minutes after in silence, before he hugged me (I had something in my eye) & then had a couple of hours of life affirming conversation. We still find ourselves taking about it now.

The Springboks have been sensational in this second half. #NZLvsRSA #TheRugbyChampionship

All Blacks & Springboks treating us again to some of the most intense, exciting & highest quality rugby you're likely to see. Can we have this every week?!

I didn't see that. I actually thought that if anything SA got a rough deal from the ref in the second half. Though I wouldn't make a big deal of it. Great game but about the right result. Can't wait for the next one.

What a game of rugby. Privilege to watch. The quality of plays, the handling, the tackles, the physicality, the defense. All as good as it gets. #NZLvsRSA #RugbyChampionship

Your periodic reminder that mRNA vaccines are a scientific and public health game-changer. Those that have been approved have passed stringent efficacy and safety checks. They protect you and your child against potentially fatal diseases. You may, however, get a sore arm.

The body of evidence showing that when centrist parties adopt the priorities and talking points of the far right, they torpedo themselves is vast and powerful. Yet Keir Starmer's Labour Party seems determined to ignore it.
A few examples in 🧵:

How should Labour and the Tories respond to the populist right? Lessons from Europe
The evidence suggests traditional parties that ape the populist radical right’s policies risk boosting their rivals instead of reclaiming voters.

Series thoughts: Lions never really impressed, less than the sum of their parts. Didn't look like the kind of impressive Farrell machine of a team that we'd hoped to see. Australia stepped up in games 2 & 3 & credit to them. Having said that, I think they'll struggle against SA & NZ. #AusvLions

Poor performance by the Lions. I don't care what the conditions are, if every time you kick the ball for the first 50 minutes the opposition take it cleanly you have to try a different tactic. They're basically just giving away possession & failing to even try to build any momentum. #AusvLions

Big half time for Andy Farrell here. If he gets it right the Lions should still win this comfortably but if the same team appear for the second half they could lose to a team that has no business getting close to them. #AusvLions

#AusvLions Russell now missed two conversations. Get Owen Farrell on at half time, he'll kick the goals, inject some aggression and lead by example
philhutchinson.bsky.social
Embarrassing performance by the Lions against a bang-average Aus team. Aus might be playing well but there's no way they should be posing problems for this lions side if the latter were playing at their best. Big questions for Andy Farrell. Lackluster, missed tackles, poor decision-making #AusvLions
philhutchinson.bsky.social
As poor as the Australian team are, the Lions aren't looking impressive and aren't playing in a way I'd associate with a Farrell side. They'll still win this by a margin, by international rugby union standards, but it's not impressive. #AusvLions
philhutchinson.bsky.social
I never thought I'd say this but it's sad to see what appears to be the terminal decline of Australian rugby union. I've rarely had less interest in a Lions test. France Vs Lions would have been a more interesting series.

We have been reading it in a weekly reading group I facilitate. We began in February 2023. We are scheduled to finish in August this year. It's incredibly rewarding & even now, 29 months & about 1330 pages in, I still find myself reading lectures & marveling at Sacks' insight.

It's not quite at the "what the hell am I doing with my life, watching this garbage?!" stage that FTWD attained but it's close. I've passed the "I'm watching this solely out of habit & need to move on" stage. Like Lenny James in FTWD you gotta wonder what Jeffrey Dean Morgan thinks of this rubbish.
