Melbourne #metrotunnel is special to me.
And with yesterday’s announcement, I want to now tell you why, in a thread.

I love rail maps. Inspired by Beck’s London Underground diagram since a youngster, I've long thought every big city needs a map and an UndergrounD just like London

First bus that I've seen fitted with the new myki readers. Kinetic bus 388009.

They do take up a bit more space than the older ones and are liable to be bumped into on account of the card reader jutting out - especially as they are near the doors - but they do […]

Lots of new Metro Tunnel announcements from the Premier and Minister for Public Transport at today's media launch!

Partial launch in early December (pending rail safety regulator signoff) with full service starting 10 February 2026. This includes changes to train […]

Hoddle Street is one of the major inner arterial roads in inner Melbourne. It is 10 lanes at its widest point but narrows at its southern and northern ends. This is because it wasn't always like this.

Hoddle Street used to be a fairly standard shopping street […]

"Minor" disruption at the moment across the entire Melbourne metropolitan rail network. All passenger information displays, apps and website are not showing train departures.

Rejoice! The down escalator appears to be fixed (for now) and is working as of today. Nearly a week of it being broken.

So far it has been broken for nearly a third of the year (30% of 2025).

Unfortunately it looks like we're set for a repeat of the 2024-2025 saga when the down escalator at the Box Hill Bus Station was broken for over four months.

It has now been broken again for at least five days straight. No signage or assistance for people to […]

Today's historic photo of the day: Exactly 39 years ago today, T358 and another T haul a broad gauge goods #train across the gated level crossing at Lydiard Street, Ballarat, Vic, September 25 1986.

Ballarat is a provincial city in Victoria 120km west of […]

@aj Good question! It certainly looks original

The down escalator at Box Hill is broken yet again! Only 194 days since it was fixed.

Hopefully it doesn't take over four months to repair again...

The upgrades to City Loop stations are all well and good, but what's the point of live departure screens if you can't see them?

Blocked from view at most points on the platform by the new signs placed directly in front of them

New video out today about the two times that Victoria nearly got a nuclear power station!

This has been one of my personal favourites to make. It involved a lot of original research and I learned a lot.

This particularly annoys me – when the ad wrap covers the tram windows with a block colour, meaning it could've just been left uncovered. Ad wrap should be banned over tram windows.

Did you know Parramatta Lake was the first dam built in Australia? Completed in 1856, it provided water to the second British settlement in Australia (Parramatta).

A rare surviving example of a very early prefabricated building brought over from Singapore in the 1850s.
