Gregory, newly shorn. The cut for cavapoos is called a “teddy bear clip.” You can sort of see why. 😊

If you’re a Jean Arthur fan, you’ll no doubt be tuning in to #EasyLiving on #TCMParty tonight, one of the greatest screwballs. But be sure to tape #TooManyHusbands (1:30 AM EST), the most feminist screwball, in which Arthur asserts that the courts have no business interfering in a woman’s affairs.

The new rug was advertised as orange, but it’s terra cotta – but I think it works. The swinging chair was Ira Gershwin’s. I was archivist for the Gershwin Trusts, and when Mrs. G died, she left me that. It used to have a canopy, and we’ve since reupholstered it, but it’s a lovely link to the past. 😊

During the 2020 lockdown, Philip & I learned ballroom dancing, via lessons at YouTube. We did tango, mambo – but swing was the best. Here’s us in April 2020, and I couldn’t think of a better way to wish you a #NewYear filled with hope. Because if I can learn to dance, then anything is possible. 😊

Philip and I did the “Magic of Lights” drive in Indio last night, a 30-minute self-guided tour through various formations of Christmas lights. It was wonderful. 😊😊

Last spring, when it was clear that food prices were going through the roof (and at the suggestion of @brat2381.bsky.social and others), Philip started a vegetable garden. We now have – among other items – a steady supply of tomatoes, bell peppers, lemon cucumbers and cabbage. Plus onions (unseen).😊

Watching #TheShopAroundTheCorner reminded me that my very first film essay was about the luminous #MargaretSullavan – examining her 16 Hollywood films, and rating both the films and her performances. Take a look if you’re so inclined. 😊 #TCMParty #FilmSky thatsallsiknow.blogspot.com/2024/05/marg...

If anyone is going to Palm Springs’ #FestivalOfLights parade tonight, look for me & Philip in his 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle. Our bug was invited to be among the “classic cars” in the parade. We decorated it yesterday, and Philip took it for a test run, and happily, none of the lights fell off. 😅🙏

Doing our traditional nontraditional Raclette Thanksgiving, using the grill I got Philip in 2019. Meats & vegetables grilling, cheese melting, with pecan & pumpkin pie for dessert. Plus a family pic. Can you guess which one of us Gregory likes better? 😅 Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours. 😊

New #ClassicFilm essay today, for those with a weakness for Westerns. RANDOLPH SCOTT: 10 BEST FILMS OF THE FIFTIES, in which I pick my favorites among two dozen Westerns, ignoring conventional wisdom. THE BREAKING POINT, where the malaise of impending middle age meets the disillusion of the postwar era. Ernest Hemingway called it the best adaptation of any of his novels; John Garfield called it his best performance. Can’t argue.

In the living room, Philip has his chair, I have mine, & Gregory has his doggy bed. Recently, though, he’s taken over Philip’s chair. I told Philip, paraphrasing Olivia de Havilland in #TheHeiress, “He’s grown greedier over the years. Before he only wanted our love; now he wants your chair as well.”

Sorry, Rita, not you; put the blame on Veronica Lake, for this noir number I watch more than any other. It’s fitting that Frank Loesser wrote a lyric about sleight of hand, since nothing in This Gun for Hire is what it seems.

The rigged poker game in DARK CITY (1950). Director William Dieterle’s canted angles, telling two-shots and smoke-filled room – revealing some hands but not others – creates a card game as tense as any I’ve seen onscreen.

PITFALL’s opening captures the stifling impact of a 9-to-5 existence. John feels like “a wheel within a wheel.” Wife Sue replies, “You and 50 million others,” and he whines, “I don’t want to be like 50 million others.” And that leads to trouble…

This is so silly, but Kindle just sent me my first statement for my book on #OldHollywood director William Dieterle, and when I saw that I’d actually sold some, I burst into tears. 😅 As an album producer for 35 years, I never imagined writing a book, but I’m so glad I followed my passion. #FilmSky 🎥
