My partner has just informed me that I am "older than Homer Simpson"

It was pretty common for popular webcomic sites to have space for banner ads like these back then as a way of generating a tiny bit of extra income (maybe they still do? I don't follow many "webcomics" these days). Here are a couple more fake ads I made...

I was going through some ancient folders on my hard drive last night and came across something I'd completely forgotten about: fake banner ads that I made and stuck on my website like 15 - 20 years ago, just goofing on some popular tropes in the "webcomics" scene as it existed back then

As one of his constituents, the kindest thing I can say about Chuck Schumer is that I hope he falls down an endless flight of stairs

Schumer: I want to say to Donald Trump, to Johnson, and to Thune: come to the Capitol, sit down in public, and debate us on the health care crisis that’s afflicting Americans.

The public needs to see this.

Recently a friend asked where I'd go if I had to flee the US (I hope I never have to, this is my home, but the way things are going here...😕). I said "I live like 10 minutes from Canada (and know people there), so that'd probably be my first stop, but I think I'd try to make my way to Ireland..."

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

My main takeaway from teaching gen z has been that the majority of them are way smarter than I was at their age.
philmcandrew.bsky.social
I will defend gen z with my life. They are no more or less lazy than any other generation. (I'm a 40 year old millenial who has taught many many gen z college students)

In all seriousness, the "LLMs are people and you're racist if you don't like them" shit is the natural endpoint of a consumerist society in which consuming and fandom are the only modes of identity-building many people understand. Finally, a product no one can tell you not to love.

There should be way more comics about adults doing adult things. Most people are adults.

4:28 AM: on a wind that is drying our eyes. Each star has its own halo, and our yawns are getting larger and larger. We long for our bed, but
A square pastel drawing of a night sky, mostly clear, dark blue, with a few stars, and long, lighter blue clouds above the horizon. There are dark trees in the distance.

building our entire society around cars is, in my opinion, the stupidest thing any species on this planet has ever done
