Co-founder of @protect.earth, a registered charity (England & Wales) creating/restoring woodlands and other knackered ecosystems to sequester carbon and fight the biodiversity crisis. Electric van life, bikepacking, and boycotting fossil fuels.
£500,000 for 5.4 acres screams “you gonna develop this” because it’s 10x what that field would be worth otherwise.

Now removed from the site I can only assume it was snapped up and will be built on.

More car dependent housing. The nearest train is a hobby railway that goes to literally nowhere.

Anyone wondering what the “Grey Belt” looks like, it’s “any Green belt land near other housing”. In this case specifically it’s Bristol continuing a never ending march eastwards after devouring every square meter of greenbelt, all over local farms and onwards to the Cotswolds.

Restoring ancient woodlands is fun and not hard. Get yourself a chainsaw license. Grab a regenerative felling license for the woods. Then get stuck in thinning away the trees that shouldn’t be there to give more space for the native species struggling for light. Will use the conifers for timber. 🫡

That’s a whole week of tree planting!

It’s been tough and wet, but countless volunteers came to events all over the south of England.

Bit embarrassed so many Bristolians cancelled this weekend scared of a bit of rain. We’re not made out of sugar.

Trees are planted in winter. Winter be like that.

That particular example was in the back of my mind when I wrote this.

No trees planted today, but a glorious tour of an ancient woodland in Newbury completely battered by rhododendrons and cherry laurel that @protect.earth is going to help restore. Most of the south east is just one big rhododendron like this but very hard to get landowners on board with removing it.

Toby Perkins, Labour MP and fervent Digital ID booster, posted this racist nonsense then deleted it in shame. Later calling it ”clumsy”. Not clumsy. Racist. Go join Reform.

Not clumsy just racist.

Grandad was pulling some strings up there because I bloody got it.

Laying around in a Surrey car park. Glistening in the rain to the point I saw it 20 meters away from the road. Next to the barrel for 48 hours. 🫣

If I ever don’t have this ring on, you need to slap me and ask me where it is.

Yesterday we replanted 500 trees at South Lodge, many of which died when the cardboard deer guards were… eaten by dear. (Experiment over, they are useless)

We got new goats up, and along with the saplings we planted we were joined by 100+ self seeded oaks! All heavily browsed, now guarded.

Every single night for the last week I’ve been up until 4am working on the code to generate “biodiversity squares” for Protect Earth. I can now upload a GeoJSON polygon of work done, and generate one unit for every single full square meter (no partials). This code was ridiculously hard to make work.

“Problem with all these immigrants is you can’t get a hotel these days because they’re all full.”

Nope just some shithole Premier Inns in an industrial estate you couldn’t pay to me visit.

The real problem is Bath Christmas Market. Wanted a warm night off the boat. I’d rather hammock in the woods.

If you don’t have money to spare (same) and cannot sign up for any volunteering (protect.earth/events) I would love it if you could share our story.

This is a passion project that’s grown beyond anything I could imagine. We are a team of friends, family, and hires who have become friends and family
November 28, 2025 at 5:12 PM
Thank you Pete! We have a hell of a team and I could not be happier with this rag tag crew of friends, family, and hires who have become friends and family. I could bloody cry when I think about it.

OMG mum went viral on Theads talking about @protect.earth’s 5th birthday. I didn’t even say anything about that! 🤣

Bike in the van! Traffic forced me scenic route passed an ancient woodland I manage. Stopped off to do a quick chore an and found more scrap metal: chicken wire from old pheasant fencing we’ve been removing. Popped that in the van for tip run, and the universe rewarded me with wood ear mushrooms! 🤩
November 28, 2025 at 3:38 PM
The wind has instructed me to take this bike to the scrap.

I want this dog. Mike better watch out.

It’s good I agree, but freezing at this point is a bit of a slap in the face without doing anything to actually close this gap. Guessing fuel duty isn’t unfrozen and catching up.

Had a decent night sleep on the boat. Zero degrees is cold but I’ve camped in less, and the morning was a lot easier. Boiled some water, poached some eggs, washed up in the eggs water because pump still out.

Then onto the fun stuff. Splitting wood. Stacking and storing by moisture %.
November 20, 2025 at 11:49 AM
Ready for first zero degree night on the boat. Stuck half a woodland in the stove and the back boiler is sending some warmth to the bedroom radiator. Got five layers on and I’ve cracked out the sheep skin to go in the bed. Excited to upgrade this boat but it’s slooooow progress.

Trump could have gone with:

- Marjorie Failure Greene
- Marjorie Traitor Greene
- Mouldy Taylor Greene
- Major Tattletale Green

Any of that would have been better than this piss weak nonsense for a man well known for having “the best words”.

Whenever a right winger says something and you think “that sounds made up” it’s because it is.

They have just completely rotted their mental faculties on facebook / twitter poison and they have absolutely no ability to fact check anything.
November 18, 2025 at 10:40 PM
I went and met the team today for a quick bit of planting to get the first couple hundred in. Amazing folks. Excited to work with them and there are a LOT of dates coming through December. Please pick one that works for you.

Probabilistically linking the next thing people are likely to say from a huge database of tokens linking other things other people have said is fundamentally, patently, inherently entirely different from the concept of AGI. It’s worrying that some people don’t get that.
