We are frightened of losing everything we have gained, understood and gathered. We are frightened of not being. We are frightened of the unknown. —Krishnamurti

I’ve noticed that having to verbalize every thought that crosses your mind while watching something means you miss a lot of the storytelling, especially the more subtle stuff.

Polishing my chrome Star Trek logo collection.
Six shiny Star Trek logos, all recreations of officially-used logos except for one.

1. As it appeared on the Original Series VHS tapes
2. As seen on one of the Original Series soundtracks
3. As used on the Strategic Operations Simulator game
4. From the 25th Anniversary logo, 1991
5. As used on the TNG VHS covers
6. My own mashup logo, in the style of the Wing Commander logo
7. The Deep Space Nine logo
8. The Voyager logo

Studio Ghibli fell in love with this film and gave its director a movie deal. Master animators like Yuri Norstein call it a favorite.

Its name is Father and Daughter, and we've explored its story:

Work/Life Balance is essential for a writer. Your brain is the whole deal. If you're tired, exhausted, unhappy, or all three, you're not going to be writing at your best. Be sure to take days off, don't beat yourself up for not making your pages, and get the rest you deserve. Fuck hustle culture.

I had no idea that the phrase “Back to the old drawing board” comes from this Peter Arno cartoon from March 1st 1941’s New Yorker. It’s rather splendid to be able to date the birth of what would become part of everyday speech with such precision.
