More of my shiny logo creations or recreations. All vector art, these were some of the most laborious to made, but it's worth it when they turn out well.
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy logo used by the old BBC TV series. A Star Trek Deep Space Nine logo in the style of the one used on the Wrath of Khan poster. Vector recreation of the Batman emblem from the iconic 1989 movie poster. Recreation of the RoboCop logo and Ocean software logo. This version of the RoboCop logo was used on the box art for the computer game.

Some trailers for sure. They can be like a concentrated hit of the film.
starfleetdesign.bsky.social
…That sounded a bit more dismissive of Cloud Atlas than I meant it to! It is a flawed film to be sure, but I still enjoy it. It's my favourite Wachowski after The Matrix.

But I really do think that has to be one of the greatest trailers of all time.
starfleetdesign.bsky.social
The extended Cloud Atlas trailer is, IMO, the best cut of that film.

I revisit the Fury Road trailers often too. Then I usually have to watch the film again.

And that is still the best of the Jurassic Park sequels. If ever there were a franchise that should have remained as a single perfect film…

#OTD 45 years ago (7 Oct 1980) according to my diary, I drew these images for the Hitchhiker's Guide BBC TV series. Douglas Adams as both the ad exec and as Paula, the worst poet in the universe. I was 19 years old and having fun.

As always, I'm available and interested in drawing comic covers! I'd love the opportunity, as I have only done a few in my 10 years of drawing comics. More on my website here: tinyurl.com/2vxznywf

It'll be interesting to hear if you make any findings about bits that don't line up, etc.

I know the promenade doesn't.
starfleetdesign.bsky.social
Speaking of the Deep Space Nine model, a while ago I noticed an oddity around the struts surrounding the promenade.

The station is designed with radial symmetry in sets of 3, 6, 12, etc. Cardassian architecture! However the promenade has *10* struts… [1/4]

Thought I'd try to work out how the interior of #StarTrek Deep Space Nine works. Can't remember why. V rough work in progress. #DS9

If you know who Panic are and who Cabel is, you'll know why this has made my day. 😁
Reply to a post of my work from Cabel Sasser:

"these are 100% amazing. incredible work. me and my designer friends would love to see the path data!!"

I've been a big fan of Panic and yourself for many years, so that means a great deal! Thank you.

I have a few x-rays. All my work is made using Affinity Designer. As you might imagine, the secret ingredient to making these is simply time. 😅

The soft-bevelled one in perspective? Honestly, I'm not that familiar with it.

One I do want to make is the Psygnosis logo by Roger Dean. It's a bit daunting tho!

I still enjoy Tron: Legacy quite a bit, but that's mostly down to music and vibes.
starfleetdesign.bsky.social
I just watched that too. And honestly, same. Some things just don't age well. I watched an old 1977 animated film last night (Wizards) that was somewhat celebrated for its innovative visuals at the time. It was dire.

Here's something very random that I made back in 2022 and definitely never posted… a vectorised and colourised recreation of a panel from a @sarahseeandersen.bsky.social comic!
Colour cartoon of a 'biblically accurate angel' with eight wings and many eyes all over its body sat at a dining table, in front of roaring flames, saying "BE NOT AFRAID" in an inverted speech balloon overflowing with corrupted zalgo text. The original Sarah Anderson cartoon from 2022.

Panel 1: A cartoon chap is sat at a dining table, sweating an nervously saying "Y-you have beautiful eyes."
Panel 2: Same chap says "I'm sorry. I'm just so nervous."
Panel 3: Reverse angle of the terrifying angel described previously, sat passively at the table.
Panel 4: Same angle as the angel says "BE NOT AFRAID" in bold zalgo text.

My single panel is a combined reworking of the last two.

Polishing my chrome Star Trek logo collection.
Six shiny Star Trek logos, all recreations of officially-used logos except for one.

1. As it appeared on the Original Series VHS tapes
2. As seen on one of the Original Series soundtracks
3. As used on the Strategic Operations Simulator game
4. From the 25th Anniversary logo, 1991
5. As used on the TNG VHS covers
6. My own mashup logo, in the style of the Wing Commander logo
7. The Deep Space Nine logo
8. The Voyager logo

I had the same thought, though not when I originally made this a few years ago of course.

Space Adventure Hour should have used something like this TBH. That episode was a bit anachronistic and the fake show felt more like a 50s production.

It's not my design, it's a recreation of the logo as it appeared on this Ghanaian artwork.

It's always important to evaluate the work of an artist or designer in context, not simply as whether you like it or not. Did I accomplish what I was trying to?

I posted these recently, but they fit the theme of 'noodling around with no particular goal in mind' quite well.
A rendition of the Star Trek logo in the style of a ~1930s movie title card. A gold chiseled letters against a dark marble backdrop, lit from above. The Star Trek logo using a multilined lettering style. Monochrome Star Trek logo in a style like the Sculptura typeface, or Profil. A retro Star Trek logo with extruded lettering, in the style of fonts like Baby Fat, Buxom or Fat Shadow.

Another mashup, this one inspired by the Ms. Marvel TV logo. Basically, 'What if Star Trek came out in the 1950s?'
Star Trek logo, Art Deco style.
starfleetdesign.bsky.social
Well, it's still a distinctive and deliberate feature regardless of how it came to be.

Perhaps it should be styled as WipEout in text instead of WipeOut. 😄

Chapterhouse: Trek

Recreation of Davison Art Nouveau lettering, famously used on the cover of Dune novels.
STAR TREK logo in the style of some of the Dune novel covers, using a picture of Vulcan as a backdrop. The font is Davison Art Nouveau, tho this is my own recreation. I decided to make the Trek logo when I noticed that the A had a little hidden delta…
