But I'm considering making a complaint to my provider's head office about that questionnaire. Why not provided it to ppl in advance & then go through it with your caseworker in the appt? Some ppl may want to talk about their hobbies & their goals for success. But, for me, it's none of their business

I don't mean to say it was all bad. I made it clear that I didn’t want them to contact my current employer & my caseworker seemed happy to comply. Also, for reasons I don't understand, I have no job searches to do in my Job Plan. But then, idk what we'll be talking about in my fortnightly appts.

And this is where she just started talking over me. Just, pretended we were on to the next question, reading it out, as I was still speaking. As if I was being difficult & really needed to stop talking.
And so, I kind of froze, unable to think about the question she had just asked.

One question was something about what I saw as "Success" in my goal of employment. This wasn't a drop down response, but an empty box. I said simply, "finding a job I can physically do". And she put it in her own words & used the word "health". I found myself arguing to have it say "physical".

I tried to explain these questions were in danger of SEEMING helpful without BEING helpful. That I had been in situations where people had thought they were helping but, in fact, weren't (an attempt to hint that she was heading into this territory).

Ok, so that's my main point, but I'm going to go on a slight unfocused rant, bcos I'm back in DES/IEA and it feels EXACTLY the SAME! Aaaaaah

Feel free to ignore.

Cultural safety is a First Nations practice based on their/our ways of knowing, being, doing. It provides a practitioner with a model that respects First Nations clients. Takes into account a client's culture, and impacts of historical/current discrimination, institutional bias, systemic whiteness

Cultural safety was developed by Irihapeti Ramsden, a Maori nurse, to improve provision of health services for Maori people. It's an interpersonal method of communication that starts with practitioners reflecting on their own biases. It's been adopted by First Nations peoples in Canada & Australia
