Tim Kaine has issues with object permanence. He only feels uncomfortable about the suffering of people he can see at work.

also (if I understand correctly) the living (African) ostrich is pretty silly, but there was once a 2nd species of ostrich (it's mentioned in the Bible). The only thing we know about it is that the Romans thought its feathers made better hats than the African one (may be why they're now extinct 🙁)

emus are even weirder. Have you seen them do the thing where they're startled and run away, but it looks like their legs made an executive decision, and then their neck and head are just flapping along behind them like an empty sock puppet?

presumably it's one of those things like the old Nigerian Prince email scams, where they are deliberately looking for marks who don't react to
that sort of red flag?

ducks are very portentious. A creature of land, sea and sky (and also bathtubs, in rubber form). A receptacle for secrets (as in rubber duck debugging). A singer of songs and squonker of squonks. A powerful omen 🙏🏻

especially not if the member of the public is currently in POLICE CUSTODY, ffs!
November 5, 2025 at 8:01 AM
Like, I know emergency service workers, I know that them getting assaulted (sometimes really badly) by members of the public happens way more than people like to talk about

But that's not the same thing as saying that the average member of the public is the one with power in that situation?
November 5, 2025 at 8:00 AM
...wow, they're talking about a situation in which police are strip-searching a person in custody, and their first thought is that the *police officer* is the vulnerable one in that situation?

Nelson Mandela, while not a perfect person, has a statue in London (and I assume in other places also)

honestly, in this economy, I'll take what I can get. I think slime has protein and vitamins?

yeah, better make sure to hold those people accountable for needing food to live!

also, how reliably can one estimate size of head, and thus amount of free space inside a top hat, just from the size of the visible portion of the head?

they could have a small forehead

or a braincase empty and yawning, the better to accommodate the skittering hordes

several possibilities!

I'm hoping that Musk doesn't realise that the phrase 'civil war' just doesn't hold the same excitement for English racists as it does for American ones 😬
