Scientist, teacher, and environmentalist. My userid documents my favorite Star Trek captain, and my optimistic world view. I would be a Democrat, if Democrats were still like FDR or Bernie Sanders, now I'm just a Noid.
Today's fundraising mail was better! You had a two point TLDR, then linked it to broader issues, like demasking/defunding ICE and raising the minimum wage. Understand that the most timid and "centrist" democrat will be called "radical leftist" no matter what. So we've got to own it, "fiercely".

Thanks for the repost @evandandeleon.bsky.social ... Just getting started here and learning the culture. I accept DMs.

Yes ... this is good. Talk about MONEY! Your deep heritage is great but I don't think that is what will get you elected. I was horrified by Trump from ``escalator day'' onward, but he got in because he borrowed a twisted version of Bernie's "the system is rigged" rhetoric. Keep doing this!

To extend my argument. National Dems went all in on identity politics because this allowed them to avoid talking about MONEY so as not to discomfort their wealthy donor class. Liberals enjoy American diversity, but identity politics works better for white nationalist racists than liberals.

100% agree. Your fundraising messages are not up to par though. They emphasize only your Native American heritage, not your policy ideas. Perhaps this will energize the 10% of New Mexicans that are Native Americans, but I worry about the rest. See my post:

I joined Blue Sky specifically to try to get through to Deb Haaland. A Republican governor will destroy NM as Trump destroys the US, so Haaland has to win. All her fundraising texts are about her Native American identity, "Rock my mocs" and "Ribbon skirt". It's a bad strategy IMHO. Issues please!

This story gets it right. A combo of high malpractice costs and Trump medicaid cuts threaten Socorro General. Come out and say that you will take on the trial lawyers (who are many of our state representatives on this issue specifically) and vow to maintain subsidizing the medicaid cuts.

Your campaign website debhaaland.com still links to that cesspool formerly known as Twitter. Yet your last post there is in 2021. I think you should just take the X link off your website. You will find no friends there. Don't bother.
Deb Haaland for New Mexico | Official Campaign Website
Deb Haaland is running for Governor because she’s lived the struggles of New Mexicans. She is determined to face the toughest challenges head-on.

I'm a Jew and yet I believe that Israelis are acting like Nazis when it comes to Palestinians, and Trump supports them. This isn't a New Mexico issue particularly, but echoes of the oppression visited on Palestine is now coming home to Los Angeles and Minnesota. Fascists must be fought everywhere.

And also say that the state will keep subsidizing Medicaid despite the federal cuts. Otherwise we will lose our rural hospitals!

I spoke to my doctors in Socorro. Malpractice insurance is higher in NM than Texas and surrounding states because there is no limit on damages that can be requested. While Tort reform does not sound like a typical Democratic pledge, it is necessary to help solve NM's critical doctor shortage.

Oh ... it is SO RIGGED. This is why you have to explain what you will do. There are so many openings for positive change, not just resistance.
February 6, 2026 at 8:00 PM
Look, Trump is Hitler, which is why you have to win in New Mexico. I joined BlueSky to follow you, and specifically to tell you that the text messages you send to supporters are terrible. ALL YOU DO IS ASK FOR MONEY. You must put at least one sentence on WHAT YOU WILL DO in every text sent.

Congratulations on your filing for Governor! I have been contributing monthly since you first announced. I remember you as Secretary of interior.
