Om de zoveel tijd komt er weer een artikel over dat akelige kale dorp Nagele en wordt er weer over 'licht, lucht en ruimte' gepraat alsof niemand daar voor 1950 over nadacht. Modernisme is een soort sekte waarin mensen mantra's herhalen en zich heel speciaal kunnen voelen omdat ze de codes kennen.

Earlier I wrote about how traumatic loneliness can be exacerbated by existential loneliness. One artist perfectly expressed that in his art. From a child's trauma (look at the isolated people in the background) to alienation from other people to an "infinite scream passing through nature".

'Enige kandidaat.' Ik blijf hier moeite mee hebben. Zodra het over het kiezen van een leider gaat ontstaat er een angstcultuur: 'rust in de partij! geen mes in de rug! eenheid uitstralen!' Met als resultaat dat een partij-elite zichzelf eindeloos consolideert en nieuw talent 20 jaar moet wachten.

I notice if I start from unsaturated colors it is really hard to work toward stronger colors so I try the other way around, start with clashing colors and slowly try to find more subtle harmonies

Amsterdam heeft zoveel grachten en toch kun je bijna nergens langs het water wandelen want er is vaak een driedubbele barriere van woonboten, parkeerplaatsen en een drukke straat. Maar er zijn een paar stukjes waar het kan.

In the beginning of the 20th century many architects looked at geometry as a gateway to spirituality: the non-human quality of geometry was seen as a possibility for transcendence. But this was very much connected to subjective aesthetic experience. The purpose was not alienation or functionalism.

I can feel awe for machines, don't get me wrong. I can also feel awe for the machine of biology, cut open and exposed. But we are now living in a time where reality is considered more important than hopes and dreams, and wounds are honored more than healing.

Sometimes when you look up to the moon, it looks very alien but that also gives a kind of consolation: there is a truth beyond our human truth. When you look at a modernist ceiling, it is alien but it isn't a gate to a bigger truth except the truth that technical people like: everything is a machine
