So many in media are ill-equipped to interview officials about what’s happening because they begin with the presumption of legitimacy and don’t know enough about history or U.S. foreign policy to foment intelligent pushback and hold officials accountable.

Honestly, not the worst thing they could be doing with their time. But if this counts as a deployment, as I assume it does, this might be the most expensive trash collection scheme in human history.

All I think about when I hear people say that it’s bad taste to dance on Hulk Hogan’s grave is that Emmett Till’s monument had to be replaced with a 500lb steel bulletproof monument because white people simply won’t stop riddling it with bullets. So now it just has tons of dents. From bullets.

It’s really wild how far down the path to a consolidated authoritarian regime we’ve already gone.

It’s very helpful that Trump is so bad at this and fairly unpopular. But, it’s also wild how quickly we’ve normalized being in a lawless, post-constitutional world. Scary times!

as for the upshot of the decision, the republican court has put the citizen children of non-citizens in a position similar to that of free blacks during the antebellum period. their right to enjoy the privileges and immunities of american citizenship will vary according to state borders

Feels like ranked choice was absolutely decisive in this race—not because of the vote count, but because of how it changed the incentives from zero-sum to cooperapetitive. It allowed a fractured left field to align organically through co-endorsements instead of falling into a circular firing squad.

The Word Games That Enable Medicaid Cuts
We don’t call it Medicaid in many states, and we use euphemisms for what are in reality cuts. That endangers the system, a health care regulator writes.

On top of everything, we should be deeply troubled by the government’s arbitrary designation of someone as a terrorist without providing any evidence in public (and then backing it up by citing El Salvador’s president’s arbitrary designation of him as a terrorist)

it’s “cause we say it it’s true”
Leavitt: "Abrego Garcia was a foreign terrorist. He is an MS-13 gang member. He was engaged in human trafficking." (The White House hasn't provided evidence for any of these claims ... )
