As we are living in a very confusing moment, below I am including a few articles/books/podcasts that helped me (somewhat) to make sense of the current dynamics in the U.S. I would be happy to receive any recommendations, as there are lots of people here whose media diet I am very curious of.

Crucial to call out racial dog-whistles for what they are. The amount of (thinly) veiled racial statements public figures get away with under the veneer of deniability is astonishing.

Amazing read! Fomo for not being there in person. Crucial step in the much-needed research agenda on the embeddedness of politicians into digital media networks.

Below more information on the research note on how citizens view their political opponents, I have had a pleasure to work on with brilliant colleagues @eelcoharteveld.bsky.social @markuswagner.bsky.social and @jnareal.bsky.social.

What do citizens imagine their political opponents to be like? Polarization is real, but it also lives in our heads, fueled by stereotypes. We asked people in 🇧🇷, 🇬🇧, 🇩🇪 & 🇵🇱 to describe opponents in their own words.

Trend that was visible in previous polls continues: VVD losing support while CDA is gaining. PVV slightly ahead of GL/PvdA and CDA. Beyond these four parties, others are below 10% (D66 and JA21) or 5% (another 9 parties)

Question to my followers and #polisky at large. I have data for MPs from Greece, Poland, Belgium and Finland in the period (2019-2023). I am looking for MP-level variables that capture seniority in the party and if it is a new/safe seat. Is there dataset like this? Any tips welcome:)

Great read and wonderful example of incorporating insights from media studies and political communication to address traditional political science questions. I believe that the self-identification as centrist combined with extreme policy views is indicative of algorithmic division of political space

📝Why has a Bukele-style far-right party emerged in Spain—even though VOX already exists?

In our new paper, @javierpadilla.bsky.social, @canalejoalvaro.bsky.social and I explain the unexpected rise of SALF ("Let the Party Be Over") in the 2024 EP elections:

Lives up to the hype! The book shows the authoritarian structure of corporation in action. With Facebook employees withholding bad news from the leadership and rushing to like all their Facebook posts (they usually wrote), the parallels with dysfunctional authoritarian systems are striking.

Quite a strong final statement: "Descriptive research is important and it is a pity that the general obsession with causal estimates disincentivizes researchers from attempting to publish careful and detailed description."
